4 years of refurbishment in order to 'ease cognestions' and then 'sorry, we forgot to hang fancy lights onto the bridge'... Really??? Around 1/2 year more to hang those fancy lights on alongside with full closure of the bridge and now, 1 year later, the bridge is functioning with only 1 lane opened. Still causing what? That's right: terrible cognestions. So, summarizing, within last 6-7 years, the bridge was closed during around 5 years out of them (taking into account all refurbishment works, hanging of fancy lights and other constant short-term closures) and we are still experiencing same problems with cognestions. How much did these all works cost? Why all these works couldn't be done in a shorter period of time and all in one go? Who designed the refurbishment project and was it completed according to high standards (especially taking into account a number of following short-term closures)? Did the refurbishment project and those fancy lights cost the amount of money been spent? I could only guess but to me it seems that somebody should dig a little bit deeper into these questions as the situation around this bridge smells like complete incompetence or...

When I was planning my journey to Liverpool through Runcorn I checked (on Google Map) to drive through this bridge as there wasn’t any information about charges to cross it. The Mersey Gateway Bridge have those information added to the description and that was my reason to not drive through there and go via Silver Jubilee. Today I received Penalty Notice which I’m not going to pay, that’s huge extortion that both bridges have fees attached to cross them. Why we are paying Road Tax and all other taxes hidden in fuel that we can’t cross a river...

No physical toll to make payment, they claim this is for 'convenience', however, the whole process is secretive and even more inconvenient than any physical toll. I'm now being threatened with PCN charges for passing over a bridge that doesn't even have a physical toll. Just an attempt to catch people out. All because I didn't pay £2, do they think I have a problem paying £2?? Now I have to pay £40? How are you even supposed to know there is a toll?...

Very interesting bridge, saves time going to Australia to see something similar! Runcorn Bridge opened 1961 and Ethelfleda rail bridge 1868. If you walk under the structure at Runcorn promenade you really appreciate the engineering. Then walk over the bridge for a pint at the Snig in Widnes. Good way to enjoy a sunny afternoon.

An iconic bridge that provides a stunning view when looking along the river and appreciating the skyline. I was lucky enough to drive across this bridge before the toll was introduced.
