Long sweep of sand on the north bank of the Tay with views across to Fife and the lighthouses of Barry Sands, a tarred walkway leads from Broughty Ferry to Monifieth and beyond and is a really good way to experience the scenery of a beach that is easy to get to from the trainline as the station in Monifieth is a 2 min walk from the beach, its very popular on a weekend with dogwalkers and cyclists and families enjoing a day on the sands.

As good bit of beach, fairly extensive to the east, a little rocky as you go west. Free parking available although not a lot of it. The parking area outside the Riverview Caravan Park has a couple of recharging points for electric vehicles. Large park area adjacent to the bracket with skateboard bowl and kids playpark. Plenty of benches and picnic tables around. Quite a mix of wading birds seem to use the beach too!

My Mother likes to go for a drive. She isn't so mobile and I try to mix it up a bit. We don't normally cross the Tay bridge and turn right. It is a nice drive and tranquil. We reached Monifieth beach just as the sun was setting. It's a beautiful place but a photograph doesn't transfer an emotion. I suggest going. It's worth it.

Beautiful beach. Less busy than Broughty Ferry Beach just along the coast, and definitely better in my opinion, but still of a very high standard of cleanliness (it's won European awards for it before. Perfect for a swim as when tide is in it is shallow way out from the water line, very slow gradient. BEWARE though, their are tidal currents even in shallows, so keep children supervised if swimming or paddling please. The Tay river actually has the highest volume of water travel through it per hour than any other river in the British Isles, so this makes it a great place to see Dolphins play, Seals bask on the sand banks (bring your binoculars or telephoto lenses), and occasionally smaller whales if you are extremely lucky. Also home to many beautiful birds such as oyster-catchers and Sand-Martens. Usually always a brisk wind coming from the east to west tho so definitely worth bringing a windbreak if it's not one of the rare sweltering days of summer. And please please for the love of everything good, TAKE YOUR BAGS OF DOG MESS TO ONE OF THE BINS...

Our first visit to Monifieth Beach was on the warmest day of the year, and judging from how full the carparks were (both proper and improvised) south of the rail tracks, we thought the beach was going to be packed. We were pleasantly surprise then that, due to the immense breadth of the beach, each party had at least a 50m radius to themselves. Our children were free to roam between the water and their sand-castle base without having to step over anyone. Oh, and the water was clear (and free of unpleasant odour) even at low tide. As a bonus, when they had to use the facilities, the queue was negligible. We had a...

Very disappointed on our visit to this beach to find it littered with broken glass. We collected a large bag full in less than 15 minutes very close to the main access to the beach. We disposed of the glass safely in a bin on the carpark. Some of it was very jagged bottle bottoms which could have caused significant injury to a child or dog. Such a shame to find this as the beach is in a nice location and I'm sure is widely used by visitors to the nearby holiday park. We will not return and warn other...
