Vinilo Record Store — Attraction in Southampton

Their outstore event organisation is poor, so be wary. We ordered CD and Vinyl for the Bears in Trees tour, that we paid to be shipped to our address. Heard nothing. Came to the store today, when the show is supposed to be, to find out what was going on, as we’d tried calling, emailing and doing the online chat for multiple days to no avail. They had the vinyl in the store to give to us, which we weren’t told, but had apparently run out of CD’s. I don’t know how this happened. We ordered weeks in advance and if there wasn’t enough stock, they should have ordered more or stopped selling the bundle tickets for signing earlier. We again, only found this out because we went to the store, there was no communication from them. They also clearly had CD’s for other orders, and I’m thinking maybe they kept them for those because we also had vinyl, but they didn’t explain this and still should have had the stock for what we brought weeks ago. Thankfully, we at least managed to get the last CD in HMV before the show. In addition to this, there were two colour ways for the vinyl, and they didn’t even give us the one that we had specifically ordered. I feel bad for the people who don’t live in area, especially because it’s Sunday so the store will close well before the show. Very disappointed with this lack of communication and poor service. Would be wary of attending a similar event from them in the future, as this what not at all what...

My son had been begging me to take him here (he’s obsessed with his vinyl’s!) He’s had a list of albums to get on vinyls that were soo hard to find in hmv and the usual stops… he walk in here and found everything he wanted in 5 minutes! Years he’d been looking for his daft punk collection to be complete! So today he asked me to go with him and I did… what a lovely place… my son has autism & Aspergers and when I tell you he had a huge in depth conversation with Virginia who was floored by his amazing taste in music! Even gifted him a book he picked up based on the type of music he loves! Thank you soo much for making my sons day! He walked out and said “Oh My God! So amazing! You can tell she’s soo passionate about music just like me! What an amazing conversation and how nice! She gave me a book! I can’t wait to read it and tell her what I think about it! As someone partial to a bit of digging through crates of vinyl, I had been meaning to visit Vinilo for a while. When I finally got around to it, it didn't disappoint. Although the store is a little bit off the beaten track, they are well worth checking out.

The store is well organised, accessible, and with friendly staff. They carry an excellent range of stock for a small store, covering all sorts of genres, periods, etc. (Including reissues of hard to find stuff.) The prices are all very reasonable. As well as the records, they also carry books and zines. They even have some branded swag - totes, t-shirts, etc. - if you fancy flying the flag for independent record stores.

I will definitely be visiting again. My bank manager probably won't be best pleased, but my ears will be thankful.
