Always enjoy a walk down to the arches, there is always plenty of wildlife to look at, the flora and fauna are lovely. There are always plenty of people around as it is a popular destination for walkers, joggers, dog walkers, cyclists and the canal is regularly filled with anglers. The pathway, which has recently been renewed, is wide enough to allow you to socially distance with other members of the public. When the sun shines there is nowhere better than this area.

The other posts say it all. This is a part of world railway history. The arches are nearly two hundred years old and a marvel of the engineering back then. Still taking modern trains. A walk along the Sankey Viaduct is well worth the trip to see the arches. I’ve heard that they are bing done up to bring them back to their former glory. If they do it up around there then its what it deserves.

Graffiti is being removed from the viaduct at the moment so scaffolding covers part of it and we intend to go back when all work is done. Amazing piece of history, one of the earliest rail viaducts in the world above the first industrial canal in the world. Viaduct is also part of first intercity railway in the world (Manchester - Liverpool)! Well worth visiting!

Over gated shared path. Most bikes will not go through the barriers without full dismount and lift. Great for electric scooters. The path is wide and consistent with a fine grit surface. Viaduct has all the usual graffiti nonsense, reefer smoke in the air. I liked it, could be more approachable.

A lovely walk going under the viaduct the first of its kind and proudly build in the year 1757 by Henry Berry. Wheelchair friendly.
