My wife, daughter and grandchildren visited the museum on Friday 2nd June. What a great little museum. So much to see and do for all ages and all free. I could have spent hours looking at the variety of fantastic exhibits there to see. Everything was very well presented and the guides/helpers very supportive. I have one observation which has negative implications and it concerns the quiz available for the children. Many, mine included, rushed around the exhibits looking for letters on shells and the vast majority completely missed the fantastic learning opportunities open to them. Why do this when there is so much to see and we should be encouraging children to look and think. This game spoilt it for my wife and I who would have loved to engage with our grandchildren on the artifacts, pictures and reading materials there for them to see. Please do not deflect from what is excellent and dumb down what could have been an educational and excitingly stimulating experience so obviously...

They are all in a very handsome building and it's free, parking is easily available at the nearby Leisure Centre. Stroud is a place with a name for art and artists, but not a lot of signs of that in this place. The awful coffee where you had to help yourself from a self service machine added to a joyless and disappointing visit. Surely they can do better than this?

I've been to other art galleries and museums where light levels as well as the coffee on offer are much better, and told a local story in a more understandable and...
Read moreThe museum in the park is an excellent choice for a visit to Stroud.. great for kids..especially if the weather isn't great as you can spend some time in there. There is no charge for entry...but donations are welcome. A self serve cafe for hot and cold drinks. And ice cream's a limited choice of snacks .mainly crisps and cereal bars. Seating area in the courtyard so you could take a picnic...plus you also have the park. There is also a secret garden access through the museum. I visited today and was allowed to take my tea to sit outside. It had not long been opened last time I visited I think and it even more beautiful. With several areas to sit. Lots of beautiful plants and some available to purchase....
