Anton Lakes is a great place for a short visit. There is a small free car park just off the roundabout on the A343.
There is a gravel hardback path all around the lake equating to approximately 1 mile loop. There are access points to make walks longer if desired.
Four bridges cross the inlet and outlet streams. Several fishing pontoons exist which provide great vantage points as well as a walkway that goes out into the reeds and several benches that are dotted around.
The abundance wildlife is amazing, particularly the birdlife from the tiniest Wren up to visiting Herons and Cormorants. Dragonflies hunting in the summer and amazing bat acrobatics at sunset.
Not far from the car park is a play area and small field that is great for picnics, away from the water so you don't have to worry about the kids falling in whilst...
Read moreIt can be a beautiful place I've seen it and I am happy they're doing a few things to change it but the lake is always so dirty and I kinda wish they would have some type of light source around the lake because in the winter when it gets dark faster it's just impossible to see round there it's also such a shame with how many people have died or got hurt round there and I'm not saying light can fix that but it would be more convenient and maybe try to improve the paths a bit more just coz some paths are nice some are old and just have jaged rocks...
Read moreThis could be a beautiful area to spend time with family or on your own cycling jogging or simply walking. There are numerous benches around the lake to sit on and enjoy the views. Sadly there are people that don’t appreciate this place and leave rubbish there, also shopping carts from all kinds of surrounding supermarkets are quite an usual find often in the river or lake itself. Also feels a bit uncomfortable late evening time, does not feel perfectly safe...
