A popular place to enjoy a walk. Lots of circular routes around the River Tees both upstream and downstream. Walks upstream are all on shared use footpaths so be aware of the cyclists using the same paths. The upstream walks are all very urban but if extended beyond the Infinity Bridge can include a stop for refreshments in Stockton on Tees centre which is easily accessible from the riverside. Walks downstream are a little bit more green and can include a diversion through Portrack Marsh Nature Reserve on the north side of the river. The paths downstream are shared use except the ones through the marsh. These paths are also gravel and some are pretty boggy in places. The barrage area itself is a great place to spend a bit of time. The seals that feed at the barrage are always a draw and the whitewater course when working is a good place to get up close to some canoe action. Plenty of places to sit around the place and enjoy some sun. Refreshments are available at the Talpore Beefeater and there is a small cafe at whitewater course centre. Plenty of free parking although the large carpark on the south side is shut in summer 2020. No public...

All the woodwork rotten and untreated, rusting paintwork and broken unstable footpaths. No lightning around the grass or pathways making it impossible to see at night. It used to be an attraction to the local area but like anything around the teesside area it falls to lack of maintenance. I walked my dog along the overgrown riverside pathways which are littered in rubbish and dog excrement which is very off-putting. The fact there are no rubbish bins anymore doesn't help this issue. Such a shame it's been left to get...
Read moreA great paved loop around the Tees barrage, river tees, over the Newport bridge and back. You can continue on the path past the bridge towards middlesbrough. At the barrage is the Air trail, and other water activities such as paddle boarding, and home to the international white water course. A lovely pub The Talpore is located on there serving food & drinks as well as a premier inn, and a caravan, motorhome park. Over the other side is a lovely coffee stop selling a great variety of coffees, yorkshire flapjacks and lovely small donuts made with their own ideas of fillings and toppings. The whole area has plenty of parking, seating and...
