Always a fantastic place to visit. Exhibitions and artists change on a regular basis so if you visited every two months something different would be showing. Local schools and artists were exhibiting and the standards were first rate. National and International artists regularly hold solo Exhibitions here that you would normally travel to London to view. The gallery staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful and always with a smile. The shop is well stocked with a great selection of cards, books, toys etc that make it a go to place for something different. A wonderful craft gallery of ceramics, jewellery, fabrics and furniture lead to the very best café in Bideford, book a table so not to be disappointed, you won't regret it. Spend time, a lot of time enjoying the museum, art exhibitions, shop and craft gallery, and café. You may end up a few £ lighter and a few lb heavier but the experience is priceless. Read moreWe were so looking forward to visiting The Burton at Bideford Art Gallery and Museum on September 21, 2025, but unfortunately, we arrived on a bank holiday and found it closed. While we were disappointed not to go inside, we could still appreciate the beautiful exterior and the lovely setting. It's clear even from the outside that this place is a gem, and it made us even more eager to plan a return trip. We've heard wonderful things about the collections and can't wait to experience them firsthand. It's definitely at the top of our list for our next visit...
Read moreThe building is nice. I wasn't exactly impressed with the staff on the front desk, or with the lack of instructions about the site... The art gallery is definitely not for me, I was surprised by the awful works that apparently pass for popular art (I've seen better by primary school children). I suppose if you have a back story you can do what you like... The upstairs museum was better, but very small. The local history was interesting to a point, but not that engaging. I suppose they can't mention the slave trading too...
