I am part way hiking the border/coast of Wales, but I have injured both my ankles, and was advised by medical staff to rest for up to two months. With limited funds, I can only afford to sleep in a hotel once a week, so I have found myself rough camping near the beach. The locals and visitors to the place, have all been very friendly, saying hello, stopping for a chat, offering food/money, and even cooking food for me themselves. The beach and surrounding areas are kept clean by a group of local volunteers, picking up litter etc most, if not every day. The beach and sea are well used by sun bathers, kayakers, wind surfers, kite surfers, paddle boarders, and fisherpersons. Just up from the beach, there is a large grass area, a children's playground, small outdoor gym, another grass area for dog walkers, a model boat pond, and a promenade. Toilets are available, but you have to pay, there is also a water bottle refill station, and water fountain. My only slight problem with the place, is the lack of sign posting, especially the far end near the toll House, where I am sleeping. I am asked at least half a dozen times a day, where the toilets are, and I usually only spend a few hours during the day, at the beach.

Llandudno has two sides of beaches. This side, the west, has a long stretch of beach with dunes and pebbles. I was told it’s the largest beach here. It’s not developed like the main beach, no promenade or hotels or places to visit. There are just a couple cafes and a chip shop (closed bank holiday!). I last came here 10 years ago and recall it being a large and lovely sandy beach. We arrived today at 1pm and saw only pebbles 😂 however the tide was in (I’m not scientific enough to explain why it was in at this time and not when I came last time, at this time). Anyway, there were patches of sand and gradually the tide went out and behold! The sand! This side is let down by lack of places to eat (the two cafes are expensive). But, then again, that’s its charm too. I’m going to head over to the main beach. The footpath is adorned with benches to sit, there are lots of places to sunbath between the dunes, in the sand but away from sea.

This is a scenic stretch of beach with great views. There are wheel chair accessible toilets and baby changing rooms. These toilets cost 30 pence but also operate the radar scheme here. There is a permanent outdoor fitness gym which i thought was a great idea and was actually in use by young and older alike. Children's play area and lots of benches along the promenade. At the far end of the prom is a pay and display car park and adjacent to that is the beech cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. And is popular. It is wheelchair accessible also. There is a miniature railway behind the cafe.Going away from the cafe at the opposite end of the promenade is the great orme. And parking is also allowed along the promenade at the roadside. Dogs are not allowed on the beach during the summer season.

West Shore has outstanding views across the sea to the mountains beyond, and an extensive sandy beach. Fairly quiet and Very under-commercialised, you may find an ice cream van or small mobile coffee shop but no amusements and just a small parade of shops. It has a popular children's playground that is free of charge, and a regular novelty road train runs a shuttle-service to and from the more commercialised North Beach. There is quite a nice cafe on the beach, and you can walk to the impressive Deganwy Quay and Marina actually on the sand, but it can be fairly hard going at times, due to the dunes and loose sand. Maybe this is not for the infirm or unfit. Things to watch for, first the wind, it it frequently very strong can sometimes result in sandstorms. Secondly, the tides. Great care should be taken if venturing onto the beach at low tide, as rising tides are very quick, and have a reputation for trapping people and cutting them off. There is a good golf club nearby. A walk up the nearby slopes of the Great Orme to the stunning Haulfre Gardens is a must. They are a credit to Llandudno Councils Parks and Gardens Department. There you will have outstanding views of the vicinity, including being able to see both of Llandudno's beaches, West and North, and, due to the very mild climate, see wild flowers not seen anywhere else in the Country. This is quite literally an oasis of peace and calm, compared with the often savage beauty of the West Shore. Look-out for the fantastic wild Kashmiri goats that roam free, descendants of those first introduced as a gift from Queen Victoria. There is a good cafe in the gardens where you can sit outside or in an enjoy the atmosphere. My wife and myself are regular visitors to Haulfre Gardens and West shore, and it is one of our favourite walks. Don't forget your camera, as photo...

Lovely Blue Flag beach with lots to do and see for visitors. West Shore Beach is a popular spot used by windsurfers and kitesurfers who travel to the area for the amazing surf and views. The beach also boats both beautiful sandy areas as well as pebbled areas making it suitable for those looking to build sandcastles and bathe in the sun as well as the adventurers looking for crabs and sea creatures.

The beach is also surrounded by a great pub/restaurant (The Lily), Café (West Shore Beach Café) and often attended by ice cream and cake vans in the summer months. It also has a great children's play area and boating lake for anyone who has a remote controlled boat! A pay-and-display car park is also on hand as well as free on street parking if you are lucky enough to grab a space but for those who are based on Llandudno's North Shore a ride on the famous land train directly from North Shore to West is advised and lots of fun for the whole family.

Make sure to add this spectacular destination to your itinerary if you're planning a trip to Llandudno, you won't be...
