Called in with my wife to see our friends Band play. We were purposely early, as we wanted to get something to eat. The lady behind the bar reccomended the Pizza, which we ordered along with a side of fries and onion rings. When ordering drinks my wife asked if they had diet lemonade as she is diabetic. The lady said they don't have it but suggested Tonic water. My wife is not keen on it, so declined. After a few seconds trying to solve the problem, the lady asked one of the other bar staff to check down in the cellar, as she seemed to remember seeing some down there. The other member of staff came back with a 2 litre bottle of diet lemonade. Happy Wife! When the food arrived, which wasn't a long wait. It was well presented and hot. All the food did not disappoint, and the three members of staff were very attentive, helpful and courteous throughout the evening The Band were playing in an covered outside beer Garden which had a retractable roof over, with heaters on the walls. It was February, so the roof was in use and the heaters were on and surprisingly, it was not as cold as we anticipated. All - in -All a great place and a most enjoyable night. - Thank you Gallaghers.
Although we don't go out a lot, we have noticed that most places we visit dont have diet lemonade. ( The wife has it as a...
Read moreFirst started going to Gallagher's for haircuts a few years back. Always loved the quiet atmosphere and the idea of having a pint while you wait for a haircut. The building itself and the history within such as military memorabilia, photos and such give an overall historic theme to the place. One I thoroughly enjoyed being a veteran of the armed forces myself. In recent times the haircutting has stopped and a kitchen opened for food. The food I've not tried, I hear there's a bit of a musicians gathering from time to time.
( edit is from here down, after two years of positive change.) Gallaghers has definitely taken a step forward in the last couple years. The food they serve though a bit pricy is way better than weatherspoons. Doesnt stop me from ordering more food than I can eat though so take my pricing guide with a grain of salt. The staff are always courteous, and I feel the professionalism of the staff and the food are its two highest qualities. The revamp of the beer garden is great, having the option for letting the sun in or closing the roof is quite appealing, except for if you smoke. Being a smoker myself though I really dont mind because its more important to have a warm place to have a beer than a...
Read moreI've had many excellent pints of ale at Gallagher's, but the cask ales on my last visit were decidedly below par, which was a surprise and a real shame. The proprietor has recently taken over other bars in Wirral and I wonder if this is why Gallagher's appear to have taken their collective eye off the metaphorical ball in terms of cask ale quality.
Reply to owners reply: I wrote the review in the first place because I was prompted to review my visit by Google.
I did not give you a bad review. Check the maths; how can you consider 3/5 stars or 60% a bad review? One star would have been a bad review. The beer in Gallagher's was below par on this occasion, not undrinkable, which is why i didn't return it. If it had been undrinkable, you would have received a 1 star review.
I have taken many pints of undrinkable ale back to different bars in my time and your epithet of "keyboard warrior" has no justification.
I was part if a group, drinking different beers. The lager was fine, the Plum porter and the Trapper's Hat were not up to your...
