Been to the castle 🏰 with my daughter yesterday. It’s a very small castle but still a nice place to visit.

Plenty of interactive bits, so a great place to take the kids.

The only downside is that this place has a few stairs making it not very accessible for wheelchair users. My daughter is a part time wheelchair user, she is able to walk for 10 before her legs fatigue and get painful so we timed it for the stairs mainly. It is an old building, hence lifts can’t really be put in unfortunately. Unfortunately my daughters ankles are hurting today as the stairs were too much for her. Most interactive bits are upstairs, if someone is completely wheelchair bound then unfortunately there isn’t much to see at all downstairs apart from the kitchen and the dining room.

If you have an English heritage membership, it’s definitely...

Yarmouth Castle is not really a castle it is more like a Fort or a Battery. The castle is not very large , the accommodation allowed for a master gunner and and two others. Comparatively the master Gunnerhad quite a lot of space for his use including his own kitchen, whereas his gunners each had relatively small space each, a roughly nine foot square space in a tower taking up two floors, one each. The powder magazine was adjacent to their quarters. At the top of the castle is a flat area where four guns could be sited. The guns were capable of being rotated to cover an arc of fire, one still being mounted. The Castle was built by Henry the eighth as protection against the French. A really unexpected...

Lovely little castle with stunning views over the Solent, of Lymington, Hurst Castle and the many little sailboats and ferries crossing here. Staff in the shop were very helpful, and the guide book was a reasonable price and very informative, with proper plans and a map. Not busy at all, although if it was to get busy all the tiny staircases could be a hassle. Really interesting history surrounding the angle bastion, which is the oldest surviving one in the country, and being the last of Henry VIII's device forts to be built. As an English Heritage member it was free for me, however it might be a little pricey for the amount there is to see if you aren't - otherwise...
