I was visiting the Yarmouth area and stumbled on this nice looking café. My initial interaction with the staff was great where I ordered some food and desserts and was served swiftly which I was content with. The desserts are so so good but unfortunately the prawn and crab was one of the worst things Ive ever tried. Raw and foul odour emanated from the wrap so I genuinely could not take more than 1 bite and had to desert the food only eating the dessert.
As I was still hungry I went back to order something else and this time at the register I had asked if the chicken was halal as I am not a Christian so needed to know if I am able to eat the chicken prepared in the the shop. The lady who took my question up to the chef was lovely and her service was stellar which I appreciate but unfortunately the cashier which was an old woman kept frowning and staring me down after that question unlike my first interaction with her which made me extremely uncomfortable. I was reconsidering ordering from there as the period of time between when the young lady went to the kitchen to check and came back felt so so bad with judgemental looks as if I did something wrong?? That attitude continued on as I checked out when she kept asking me if I wanted the chicken and pork (I cannot eat pork) or sweet chicken to which I answered sweet chicken. I guess she wasnt listening as two seconds later she asked again in an annoyed tone whether I wanted the sweet chicken or the other option to which I again politely answered sweet chicken please and went to pay. The receipt printing and conversation after was again all in an annoyed tone but I left it. This experience was definitely not something I appreciated, considering the first time I ordered was fine when nobody knew as a Muslim I eat halal food...
In any case, the second round of actually edible food was good, I must say the pizza was absolutely amazing. I had a slice from my friends plate and it was so good so its something Id highly recommend. Remember to never order the shrimp and crab wrap as for me, the memory of taking a bite of that still sickens me and I would not wish it on anybody.
Massive thanks to all the staff and chefs of the restaurant, they were great. It is truly a shame that a single interaction with the cashier brought this score down as I am still unhappy with how our conversation went and how she behaved and displayed poor...
Read moreOn a short visit to Yarmouth, my wife and I stopped in at Gossips cafe for a bite to eat. It was our intention to have something hot, but we were informed that, because they were very busy, there would be a wait of about 35 minutes. So, with our parking time down to the wire, we opted for a piece of lemon sponge cake a slice of Bakewell tart and 2x decaf cappuccinos. I paid by card, without bothering to look at the price (I will in future!) It was only when we sat down, that I looked at the receipt. £14:60!! (It wasn't any more expensive than a lot of cafes on the isle, but the quality and the welcome was dire!) The sponge cake was small in portion, dry and of poor quality. The Bakewell was no better and the coffee was bitter, with an aftertaste of something not particularly pleasant. In addition to these inadequacies, there was very little by way of a friendly welcome, or that the owners/staff were in the least bit pleased that we had come to spend our money in their cafe. Summing up: The food and drink, that we had, was of poor quality and, for what it was, overpriced. In future, when I'm out and about, looking for a cuppa and a nice piece of cake, I'll remember to wear my 'T' shirt that says on the front: 'I am not a tourist.' Gossips Cafe is not a place that I would recommend for either quality or value for money. There are several much better coffee houses...
Read moreCould have been great but turned out to be awful, mainly down to the arrogant owner/manager. Overall, avoid if you can, overpriced and tiny portions.
Visited with my family and bought x2 lattes, a cappuccino and some deserts (completely overpriced for what it was and the desert tasted horrible, but hey ho). What was utterly frustrating was that my folks had some pasta left over and rather than throw it away wanted to finish it off. The man with the balding head and glasses came running over in a huff telling us how we can't eat in the cafe. Okay then. So as we were putting it away, he sent the lady (assuming his wife) to come over to tell us the same thing as we put it away.
Ridiculous. I can understand you don't want people to eat other food in your (rubbish) cafe, but jheeze Louise, it was a bit of pasta. Also, tell us once all good, of course we will comply but why send over your little hench woman.
The only positive was the younger lady at front who seemed much more compassionate whereas this owner is obviously only driven by profit margins.
(BONUS SIDE NOTE) The young lady topped up the cappuccino that the man served as he served well below what would be considered a normall cappuccino, she even had a little apologetic face after he served it, which basically told me all I needed to know.
So there we are folks, Gossip Cafe, run by Mr. and...
