Lovely food - all cooked on hot rock plates. Rather expensive for what it is, but it's fresh, tasty, cooked how you like it (you're effectively cooking it!). Fries were plentyful and nice n fluffy inside, crunchy outside. Was quite busy by time we left (approx 630pm). Salad was med style comprising leaves, baby plum toms, feta cheese cubes and light dressing. Both fries and salad are limitless. Service was ok - polite, informative and happy. We were in a slight rush sadly. The quality of food was worth the wait. 6oz sirloin steak was a stunning cut, generous in portion and of excellent quality! Very tasty. Nice clean restaurant, wide open seating, good table sizes and open plan kitchen presentation (looked immaculate!). Menu is simple but slightly limited (prob suits hot rock plates this way maybe?) - but i would have expected more fish and seafood options - seeing as the restaurants location is 2 mins from harbour!? Strange that they charge non-eaters in your group/at your table a charge of £5 too! Sadly another gripe is there was a dog (non guide or care dog from what I could see) in the restaurant so we naturally assumed they were allowed, but our friends with a 16wk puppy were not allowed in and turned away. We were told only known dogs were allowed! Okaaayy. Hmm. Really odd. Anyway, the restaurant served a purpose - to serve food to those (us) who were hungry prior to ferry crossing back to Lymington. Harbour, yatchs and crossing experience was superb! Perfectly on time and great chance of a lovely sunset photo op.

Wow..What a very different way of cooking what you ordered. Brilliant. On The Rocks menu is mainly meat/chicken and I think there is something for the vegetarian. I was served by a lovely young waitress, She was so kind..And told me what to expect. I ordered on the Lunchtime menu the 6oz Sirloin of Steak. And after not much time my steak came on top of a volcanic slate on a plate, Sizzling like a good un, See Picture..You cook it as you want it, I got tons of fries and a lovely large salad on the side, They come with the steak. I found if you cut the steak up into small pieces it's easy to cook. After that I ordered a cookie biscuit and on top was a plob of vanilla ice cream, With chocolate sauce drizzled over the ice cream & a slice of strawberry and two raspberries .See Picture .Delicious. A great place to eat and great atmosphere as well..

I was a little put out when they said that I had to cook my own food .... but this turned out to be a fabulous lunch! A great concept in a super location, well worth trying and dogs allowed over a lunch time. If you've not done this before I'll give a brief description. You basically order he meat,.fish or cheese that you want and it comes.tp.you.wothna.got lava stone and to cook it as you go! Served with bottom less fries and a salad it's a really good way to turn eating into an experience and all the better.if you like your steak done a certain way! It may seem a little pricey, at £25 for a sirloin, but our total bill for 6 was no much more than a good pub lunch. So go for the experience and the great good! It is very honest, as you get to see the quality before you eat! Super friendly staff and a lovely town to visit!

1)The good point- steak is really good

2)Now the bad points

We arrived and a young waitress took us to our table and left us without saying a word to us . So I had to get up and ask if we could get a menu . We were then told the menus are on the walls . So you have to spend the majority of your time twisting your neck to try to read the wall menus . None of the drinks are from the draft it's all bottles . We had a very young waitress and because of her this is why we are giving this place a 2 stars . (The steak saved you 1 star extra) She eventually came to the table asking what we would like to drink but when. My husband asked her about a drink on the menu she couldn't be bothered making the effort to talk to us properly . She was acting as if she couldn't be a××× to be there . When eventually replying to us , it was either by saying yeaĥhh or I dont know. There wasn't a smile on her face . We then asked her if they serve sauces to go with the steak( a steak always should have a nice sauce ) . Her reply was ketchup ,mayo or others . Again couldn't be bothered. Her attitude is terrible. This meal was meant to be for my husbands birthday we decided not to stay for desserts nor for a coffee we didnt tip either (and we do normally tip big when we are enjoying a nice place ) his waitress made us feel like we were not welcome and that we were bothering her more than anything else . A good steak destroyed by a horrible atmosphere. Would I recommend this place ?? If they had nice staff that are more welcoming then yes but if you don't like hurting your neck trying to read a menu and have a young waitress making you feel like you are bothering her and you feel not welcome then this place is not for you too. No we will not recommend this place to anyone . Avoid for your own neck safety and for not feeling appreciated One older waitress was however always smiling. We wish we had her serving us instead of someone that cannot be bothered to work . Very disappointed. My husbands birthday was ruined thanks to...

Absolutely abysmal, we will not be going back !! I have been to on the rocks a few times now and it’s been good however we had one of the worst restaurant experiences!!

Firstly we weren’t served any bread by our first waitress Chloe, so we asked the second waitress that was looking after our table who apologised and was shocked we weren’t served any. We eventually got our stale bread with our mains, we got 3 chateaubriand steaks.

Secondly On the Rocks provides “unlimited salad and chips” with your mains, we got served 2 salads and a big portion of chips for 6 people, upon asking for a second portion of chips one of the waitresses (Chloe) pretended to shoot herself in the head behind the bar, which we saw (there were only 3 tables seated at the restaurant - so it was hardly busy).

I appreciate the fact that people/staff have off-days however to do this in front of well paying customer in an open kitchen/bar area was absolutely disgraceful, after making this apparent to our other waitress she apologised and said she would inform the manager however we were not given anything as an apology and still paid full amount.

Shame, great location but staff need...
