The Stop & Shop supermarket on Route 34 in Matawan does have a good selection of all items you would expect in any supermarket. They do have many items on sale regularly but in general they have great sale prices always on beef cuts such as London Broil or ground meat. The only fresh product that you would like to buy that is never at a good price as far as I noticed in Stop and Shop seems to be butter. The best feature of this store is that if you do not want to spend much time at all on the checkout line you can sign up for a scan it membership. This means upon entrance of the store you can take a shopping cart and remove as many plastic bags as you need from the scan it wall, scan your membership card and a price gun will be released to you for which you can use to scan all your shopping items. After you scan each item place it in your shopping bags. Then when you are done you can proceed to self checkout and simply scan your membership card or the scan it gun all items will then be registered and you will be given a total price. So to summarize. Walk in the store, take your shopping cart, plastic shopping bags, scan your card, take your personal scanner, scan each item as you select it, placing them in your bags as you move through the store, when you are done proceed to self checkout and then scan either you're scanning gun or your shopping loyalty card. Pay for your items with either cash or credit and then walk out of the store. This feature that Stop & Shop offers as far as allowing the customers to scan their own items, bag them and then pay for them without oversight of store employees makes for a great and quick shopping experience. There are a couple of drawbacks to this store but I believe they are minor, as far as I mentioned before from what I've noticed there butter is always significantly more expensive than a store that I will not mention by name which is located very close to them. I'm sure this is probably not the only item but it is the only item due to my personal shopping habits that I am absolutely aware of. This is a big store with a large selection however it is not the biggest store or the largest selection I have ever seen. For the best and most rewarding experience at this store I would suggest signing up for a scan it membership, then shopping here for the items that suit you best, load your cart up, check yourself out and then if there are other items that the competitor carries that Stop & Shop does not or at a significantly better price which I do believe is possible just simply cross the road and complete your shopping while saving money and time. If your time is more important to you than saving a few dollars then I would highly recommend just becoming a scan it membership at this store, selecting what you need and want and saving many minutes standing on the checkout line. In closing I will say this is a good store to shop at, Perfect?, No. I will say with certainty it is most definitely worth visiting this store, signing up for the scan it membership and then using that with your shopping experience and comparing it to other stores as far as where you would like to shop at for most or all of your items that you wish...
Read moreToday was my first time at Stop & Shop to pick up a DoorDash order, and it turned out to be the worst experience of my life. Around 7:50–8:00 pm, I went to the deli section for 0.5 lb of honey ham. Since I had never been to the store before, I forgot to mention the brand name, and the employee gave me Boar’s Head. Later, I realized the customer wanted the store brand, so I politely apologized and asked for that instead. The deli employee was very understanding and started slicing the meat again.
At that point, another staff member, a woman with short blonde hair about 70 years old, suddenly jumped in and verbally attacked me. She said I was wasting everyone’s time, pointed out that I was a DoorDash driver, and told me not to do that again. There were no customers behind me, I wasn’t holding anyone up, and I felt shocked, embarrassed, and discriminated against. I don’t know if it was because of my skin color, my accent, or something else, but her behavior was extremely rude and unacceptable.
This was very humiliating, and I believe no customer or delivery driver should ever be treated this way by your staff. I am requesting that management look into this matter seriously and take proper action to ensure it does not...
Read moreThe only reason I rate 2, which is generous given my experience today, is due to the rude and incompetent individual working at the pharmacy answering the phones and ringing people up. Whoever answered around 328pm was unbelievably rude and kept answering a question I didn’t ask and didn’t seem to comprehend what I was asking and had difficulties answering this simple question: which one of my medications is delayed due to not having enough? Took 3-4 times of asking the same thing to get the answer for THAT question. Secondly, whoever was working ringing people up around 5pm was the absolute most incompetent individual I have EVER encountered at this pharmacy. She didn’t know how to do things, couldn’t find the key needed to fix her mistake, etc., and took 10 minutes to deal with one person. She really needs to be retrained (if she ever was trained) because she clearly does not know what she’s doing. I have NEVER had a bad experience with this pharmacy until I had the misfortune of having to deal with this individual. Otherwise, great store and pharmacy. I truly hope I never go there again while...
