HASSLE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO APPLY FOR AN ABINGTON LIBRARY CARD!
About 10 days ago I stopped in the library to do a little work as itās across the street from the YMCA, at which Iām a member.
Advised that I was a Philadelphia resident and I inquired about a library card. Upon confirmation of my Philadelphia library card, they advised that it would be sufficient to obtain an Abington card. I didnāt have it handy so I returned within the week with my card,at which time I was advised that I needed the card and an ID. Had my passport on hand, but that wasnāt sufficient.
I later retuned with my ID as well as my Philadelphia library card. I completed an application, watched the woman input my information into the system and was issued a card.
I visited the library last week. Spent time with the representative at the information desk in attempt to locate a few titles, which we found in print and audio. In preparation to borrow the books, I proceeded to check out. I present the books and my new Abington library card to Helen, who advised that my card wasnāt valid. I explained that I had just received the card from this library the week before, to which she rallied āno you didnātā! Annoyed, i told her I WAS ISSUED A CARD THE PREVIOUS WEEK AND EXPLAINED THE ALREADY EXTENDED CIRCUMSTANCES UNDER WHICH I received it.
She called Jeannette over who proceeded to tell me that my Abington Card was issued an error š³š³š³ and that I needed my Philadelphia library card again, which I didnāt have. I left the library frustrated and without the books I came to borrow. The trip was a complete waste of time.
With that, I wonder how my card was issued an error and what the general policy is for non Abington residents interested in an Abington Free Library Card?!? Furthermore, I feel more like Iām attempting to borrow money rather than...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm so grateful for this library and their dedication to diversity and representation. The children's book selection is so important in an era where banned books are on the rise. Finding books that help children with marginalized identities feel more seen is so powerful. I always love attending events at the library and enjoying the scavenger hunt with our kids. Rainbow Connections, Q Crew, and Pridefest are all such lovely programs as well (but I might be a bit biased as co-host of Rainbow Connections). We love seeing what new programming is happening at the library. The summer reading program is always so much fun, along with the event that coincides with it! The staff here is so incredible and helpful, we are just so thankful for this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's a great library. The staff are very friendly. There are computer areas, printing areas, and children's entertainment areas. All kinds of books are divided into different areas for easy identification. There are also many tables and chairs for rest and study. There are also free adult literacy programs. You can learn English here, whether you have a basic knowledge of English or not. There are elementary and advanced classes to choose from. The English teachers are also very friendly. I am also learning English here. The disadvantage may be that there are fewer books and no corresponding books for students to...
