Restrooms unavailable. Rude and sexist maintenance workers. I came for a school baseball game, teams had a diamond reserved. In fact, both diamonds were reserved, so 4 teams total, with coaches, family/spectators, etc. Game start time was 4 pm. There are 2 buildings with restrooms, one near the baseball diamonds, and one by the playground, batting cages & miniature golf. The restrooms by the far diamond were both locked. The only restroom open was the men's room by the batting cages. There were two maintenance workers cleaning the walkways nearby. I politely asked them if they could open one of the women's restrooms for the baseball games. They refused. I pointed out that the men's room was already opened, so why not the women's room, too? One of the men told me it was open because, "We're men. That's all we need." So, they will make sure that they have access to appropriate facilities, but not their female park guests? When I said that sounded like discrimination, they actually laughed at me! I had my daughter use the men's room while standing guard outside the door. But, with 2 ball games going on, this would not be a viable solution for long.
I got on my phone, and after trying a few different numbers for the Niles Parks department, finally got a human being on the phone and explained the situation. About 10 minutes later, someone arrived to unlock the ladies' room. She told me that all the restrooms are usually kept locked until 5 pm when the batting cages open.
2 ball diamonds reserved for games starting at 4, and they won't unlock the restrooms until 5? Seriously? I didn't see any port-a-potties around. This park is at a very busy intersection, so not exactly safe walking for kids who need to find a toilet in a hurry. Reserving a diamond should include proper access to restroom facilities. It's only common human decency. What do they expect people to do when...
