From 2023: I just had another major install done with perfection. I got 2 GI-275s and a GFC-500, along with a new GMA-345 audio panel. The 275s are configured as an ADI and an HSI/backup ADI. The GFC-500 has pitch, roll and yaw. Once again I was amazed at how well planed and organized the install was. This shop has a process. They have a special room just for building up the cables and testing the equipment before the install, along with racks for all the equipment organized by aircraft, and large racks next to each aircraft in the shop. I like to keep up with what's going on and have input at any decision points. They kept me will informed, showed me everything they were doing, answered all of my questions and put it together exactly the way I wanted it.
To fit the instrument into a basic 6-pack, I needed to replace the 1967 panel. They designed one in a CAD system, printed it out, and taped it over the hole where my old panel was with a light behind it, so I could see if I liked the new layout. I made a few tweaks, they showed me the new 'draft', then when I was satisfied, they cut it, powder coated it and laser engraved it.
I knew I would like the new setup - I had read the manuals and seen the Garmin and other YouTube videos, but when I flew it, I was absolutely blown away.
As always with Northern Lights, everything worked perfectly. I see on forums the kinds of problems people have with avionics installs. I would recommend that they fly up to Alaska and get it done right the first time!
From 2019: Another install, another excellent job by Northern Lights Avionics. I just upgraded from a GNS430W to a GTN650. They helped me get a buyer for my 430W at a fair deal for both me and the buyer; got me in a bit ahead of the original schedule and got it done for less money and faster than I had planned on. As I read the manual, I asked for a few tweaks to parameters, etc., and they had those done within about 10 minutes from the time I shut down my engine when I taxied up to their shop. Everything works great. My rule on avionics of over 30 years now still holds: no one touches my avionics except...
ย ย ย Read moreI love this little boutique for aviators. The staff are extremely nice and accommodating. A little unknown fact, you can go here and borrow, like a library book any headset to try out on your next flight. They give you 24hours and if you have some flight delay just let them know and they can plan accordingly. Just leave your credit card on file to make sure you bring it back...no big deal. I ordered the bose A20 and due to Bose back logged i just wound up borrowing the headset they had for a about a weeks worth of flights. Got my New A20 and could not be happier... did i mention the staff...
