I was there this morning, this is an owner owned business. There were several things with no price and I had to ask. He stated his price and I commented that it was out of my price range. I looked a bit and he said that he may know what I was looking for and opened a back door to items discounted 50 percent. I found a few things and went back up front. There was a couple who frequented the shop weekly and they engaged in light conversation while I waited. Finally, the frequent customer cut the conversation short and said that apparently, I needed help. He opened the cabinet that had the items I was interested in and I chose one. He made several questionable statements during this time. One being that there were no other antique stores in Alexandria which was ludicrous as we had stopped by the one on the next block. Also, Google had shown me a choice of more than 20. As is normal in these type of places, I offered less than he quoted. In addition to the rudeness earlier displayed, he acted offended. I offered him a couple of bucks off and he agreed. I paid $95; $45 for 1 nice dish, $22.50 for 2 used, worn out books and 4 pieces from the “back” room. I have a broken ankle that I am having surgery for next Thursday. He loaded a box with all of this and did not offer to take it to the car. When we arrived home, immediately one of the books fell apart when my husband opened it. The dish from the back room had a tag on the inside bottom. I used my fingertips to try to remove it and a large sliver of glass cut my finger. When I put water in it, I saw that the dish had been broken and glued back together with the tag covering a hole with slivers. I understand that these are used items, but he should have told me not to take the tag off with my fingers because it was holding slivers of glass.
In summary, He was overpriced, rude to talk to, rude to deal with, rude to not inform me of the broken dish and rude to not take my purchases to the car. ...
