Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library — Attraction in Ankeny

Very helpful & friendly staff. The Library is beautiful inside and the playground area is nice but a little hot right now with limited shade or covering. The book selection is very good and organized well for the Level reader group for small children books. The Library was very clean and easy to find the books and the Library staff was available to answer questions and very kind. If you have school aged children they offer a variety of learning kits. The kits are a ton of fun. There are easy instructions on the kit and a scope of the project and my child enjoyed getting to pick out one and doing the fun activities at home especially during the hot weather when outdoor activities are limited now. The Library staff helped assist us in the checking out and making sure the age requirements were a good match. So be sure to look into these, very recommend for children. My experience was very wonderful and it's so great to have such a beautiful Library in our community.

The new Ankeny library is absolutely beautiful. It's clean with a lot of windows which makes it extremely inviting. I was excited to go with my three young children. I'm not much for complaining, but the environment is extremely cold in regards to friendliness. The sign on the door should say, "Adults Only." Kids do not feel welcomed here at all. We were there for 10 minutes and my kids went in the play area towards the back. They were laughing, enjoying themselves when a librarian came up to me and said, "There has been a complaint." I then told my children it was time to leave. I will not go back there unless things change. Even though they have a beautiful selection of kid's books, I won't go back. I would not recommend this library for important meetings to conduct professional business. Worst library for booking meeting rooms, they don’t seem to know how to schedule and or find an already scheduled meeting room! I have booked 2 meetings for my HOA boards over the last 2 months and it has been a nightmare. First meeting I showed up to, they “didn’t have me on the schedule” for a large room downstairs..(even though I had the email confirmation from them.) Second meeting I showed up to tonight, I was upstairs and the library staff downstairs somehow “couldn’t find where I was scheduled” when someone came to attend the meeting. Meetings are important, especially when they are for annual HOA members and are mailed out to all owners prior to and if this library crew cannot figure out how to do a simple task as in booking/reserving/finding a room they need to hire...
