My wife and I went on a Friday during Summerfest in Ankeny. I will say that the service was great and the atmosphere of the resturant complemented each other. However the food and price was poor. I had the yakisoba noodles. They were a bit dry (like they were old). It was okay, a bit on the salty side. My wife ordered a burger. The bun was soggy and fell apart on her. Not something you should expect for that price point. My daughter had the mac and cheese. We paid $9.00 for about 8oz of Mac and cheese. The Mac was under cooked a bit and the cheese sauce was grainy. My wife makes better Mac and cheese from scratch. Not surprisingly, our daughter didn't eat it. The drinks were good. That is about all they have going for them is the drinks (the mules are phenomenal!) Avoid the food. Its over priced, the portions are small, and the taste is mediocre at best. To put it another way, when we left. My wife and I realized that the food trucks had better prices, we could have gotten twice the amount of food from the food trucks during the event! I am not sure if they had a modified menu because of Summerfest as they were very busy, but I wouldn't pay the price again to find out. And in fairness, the staff asked multiple times if our food was okay. We are not the type of people to request a refund or another unless it's a raw dish. So service was great and prompt! I would strongly suggest management look into the food quality and prices as they have great service and a good atmosphere, we just dont feel they are competitive enough here as they should be considering the location, e.g the Iowa Tap Room in Des Moines has better food and drinks (just not the...
Read moreI've never been to the old location. This new space is huge and can accommodate a lot of people. I like the design aspect a lot. The food was quite disappointing, though. My hubby got the Chicken Avo Club and I got the Umami Burger thinking that all of the flavors listed would pack a punch. They couldn't be more average but the prices reflected finer fare. Not only were the proteins severely overcooked but none of the additional ingredients brought anything fascinating to the flavor profile. Both sandwiches lacked dimension--there were absolutely no layers to the flavor. The Umami Burger had pepper jack cheese, spicy aioli, pickled jalapeño, napa slaw, pickles, and a soy garlic glaze on a pretzel bun. There was zero salt, spice, tang, or sweetness. It seems like they take a lot of inspiration from Asian foods but it lacked the complexity of that fusion. I felt like I was eating a flavorless brick. I honestly don't understand how that can happen. However, the Dynamite Shrimp was fantastic. I highly recommend those. Our server was also amazing and obviously very busy due to reopening in this new location. Their FOH staff is wonderful. The recipes need some tweaking, or at least additional attention. They're probably training new people. I get it, but I wouldn't be inclined to come back...
Read moreHave only had horrible experiences since they moved to their new location in Ankeny! Every to go order and DoorDash has had a problem, and this evening dining in has been the worst. After waiting 45 minutes for our food, my salad and child’s cold chicken and cold/dry Mac and cheese was brought out, then at the same time they told us they were out of what my husband ordered. This was super frustrating as we then had to wait even longer for something he didn’t really want. It finally arrived with fries instead of the side salad he ordered and we had to immediately throw it in a to go box since we’d been there so long. It seems like there are some serious problems with the kitchen/management. Wish they would’ve stayed at the old location and kept things the same because the food was great! But at this point it’s too expensive to keep trying and continually have a worse...
