I checked it out for the first time this past weekend. Kind of a cool place. As usual at such places, a few too many rules. And then the sign about pfas being in the water did not make you want to go in the water, lol. Probably everywhere, however, and most places don't give you the benefit of the sign. Still, I plan to go back when I have more time. It was overcast and threatening to drizzle when I went there a little later in the afternoon, and I suspect it's packed with really bad parking and a long walk from the parking on weekends, so something to do on a weekday or, as this past weekend, on a day when the weather isn't too good. It's kind of like when you want to go to the water park or the amusement park, you want to go on a nice sunny day, but so does everyone else and it gets crowded. The Argo livery at the nature area provides you with rental options for either 1 person or 2 person canoes where you can take a ride down the rapids along the river, leading you to the main branch of the Huron all the way down to Gallup park. Be prepared to get wet a bit. If you are less interested in the rapids, head upstream a bit along the reservoir and enjoy some of the local bird fauna. You might come across some Great Blue Herons and swans. You can also enjoy the reservoir by stand-up paddle board. If water sports are not your thing, head along the nature trail and hike all the way from dam to bridge and back again!
