This is the best natural history museum that I have found other than at the Smithsonian. Being in Alabama, there was no traffic issues, parking fees or wait time to enter. Even by Alabama's standards, we didn't see any rudeness from anybody. The visit was entirely pleasant. The bathrooms were accessable and clean.
I updated this review because I found that there was an entrance fee. It was paid by someone else without my knowledge. $30 for two adults and a child.
We were there this time on a weekend, so there were no school groups visiting. Several of the exhibits had been updated or added since the last time that we were there. The gift store was very nice.
The entire facility is in a park where there are many places to picnic. It is not in a downtown area, so vehicle access is easy. We had two people with physical limitations, including one in a wheelchair; we had no difficulties at all in navigating the facility. It was very friendly to kids.
The awesome Berman Museum is also in the same Anniston Museums and Gardens Park. Some in a group who aren't interested in natural history might go to the Berman Museum instead. I especially enjoyed the swords and other military exhibits covering ancient history to modern times. (I didn't go this time; I spent the full day at the Natural History museum. I'll plan a trip back soon to the...
Read moreI wish I could've gave this museum 5 stars. However, some of the staff members are too unprofessional and don't respect veterans. I came to visit from out of state and was looking forward to taking my family here, but the lady at the front desk didn't make me feel welcomed (I had to greet her first even though I'm a customer). She kept giving strange faces when I asked questions about the museum. The most troubling thing is that she didn't even know the procedures with veterans. The museum is under the Blue Star Museum program which let veterans enter for free, like is the case with all museums listed under the Blue Star Museums program. I never had this issue with any other museum and I've visited plenty in my life. She seemed like she wanted to argue when I mentioned it and said it'll be free Memorial day, which isn't the case whatsoever. She didn't even know how to put in a free admissions and asked a coworker how to do it that didn't even know how to do it as well. I'd hate to think that it was racial or biased behavior personally towards me since I've only experienced this level of ignorance while visiting this state which is a horrible experience.. I eventually paid for me and my whole family since it's obvious the staff members aren't aware of their...
Read moreIt has all kinds of exotic palms and flowering plants outside ,as well as a Koi pond.Inside the staff are friendly and their are exhibits of all kinds of animals and birds ( Real animals that have been stuffed). There are also fossils, shells ,rocks and lots of dinosaur bones. There is a display dedicated to Egypt that has 3 Mummies and other Egyptian artifacts. There are many displays about Southern animals and also about Oceans, the Polar regions, the West,Asia ,South America ,Africa & more. It was my 1st time being there in over 10 years and I loved it. I only wish they had left their old musical instruments up in their different country displays. I missed those & have no idea why they were removed...They have a very nice souvenir shop that sells jewelry,t- shirts, car stickers ,tiny frogs in small aquariums and all kinds of knick knacks. They have clean restrooms & they have a machine that Swansea a penny into a souvenir for only 50¢. Awesome place to learn a lot! And you can get in to it & the Berman Museum for $12! for adults and only$8 for...
