Are you a beaver? Cuz dam. Located in Page, AZ, Glen Canyon Dam Overlook is an easy way to get killer views of both Glen Canyon Dam and the Colorado River. Fun facts: * Before the dam was built, there was no Page, no Lake Powell, and no tourism. 🤯 * Construction started in 1956, was completed in 1964, and was dedicated in 1966. * It’s awesome. looking at Google Maps I was worried that this place would be a fee area. I was pleased to find a normal-looking overlook with parking and a trail leading down to a nicer view. I was even more pleased to see that the trail leading down was very natural and had a safety handrail. After parking and walking down, you had to a little shady area and you can see a perfect view of Glen Canyon Dam. I was taken aback by the beauty of the canyon and the river. That dam is quite a sight as well. I took a lot of videos at this location because that’s what I do and they did pretty well people love seeing the natural beauty out here. Please be aware that to get to the lower lookout area you need to be alert and quick on your feet. Lots of slick, sandy rocks in the area and it is definitely not wheelchair accessible. if you would like to see some of the content that I shot out here on this road trip definitely check out my YouTube channel with the same name and follow me on Instagram @seniorwhoopy

Enter this overlook area from the Scenic Drive right across from several hotels. Parking is free at the end of the cul-de-sac and then one walks down on slick rock, aided by some rock steps and embedded hand railings. Use those, as 'slick' rock is appropriately named. If you have balance issues or if walking unaided is difficult, don't attempt the path. Wear good walking shoes. It is possible to walk down much further than we did but however far one goes down, they must also come back up. We stopped where we could see the river after it had passed through the dam. The rocks will reflect heat, so it will feel warmer than it actually is. This hike is best done on cooler days or in the morning. There are no facilities at this viewpoint, so take care of that first and bring a water bottle. The light is bright also. There is a shaded picnic ramada near the bottom, if you wish to haul in (and out) some picnic lunch and gear.

There is a nice viewpoint of the Glen Canyon Dam and Colorado River on the Scenic View Road just a mile or two south of the dam off Hwy. 89. Just follow the road signs and you will quickly find yourself at a small carpark. You can see the dam pretty well while standing upon the elevated land right here at the car park. For those who don't mind walking down a rugged path 2-3 minutes, there is an even better viewpoint with less obstructed views of the dam on one side as well as the Colorado River the other. Overall, this is one of the nice viewpoints in the area. Its less spectacular to what you will see at Horseshoe Bend a few more miles south of town. However, this viewpoint is quick and easy to visit and worth the effort if you want to see the dam from a distance.

This is absolutely worth a stop, excellent views of the dam and Colorado River. Some things to note; The sandstone can be quite slick on the walk down to the view point, we watched a woman slip and fall right on her tailbone. There are handrails and it's highly recommended to use them! The parking is also fairly small and limited. When we arrived (in March) many of the small cars were parked in the RV section leaving no room for big rigs to park. Luckily there was one space left for our 25ft rig. Otherwise if you drive a very large vehicle you may need to park up the hill and walk down. No facilities, water fountain, informational plaques, or gift shop available, just a standard overlook yet well worth the visit.
