"I don't usually leave reviews, but my experience with the Belk store in Athens today has prompted me to leave one. I don't like the way the Athens Belk store advertises its sale items, and it's probably the same for all Belk stores. The clothes that are on sale are placed right beside clothes that are not on sale. For example, in the Tennessee Vols selection to the left of the entrance, sale and non-sale items are mixed together. As someone who doesn't do a lot of shopping, I was confused about which of the items I planned to purchase were actually on sale. To keep it short, the young lady who helped me today was not friendly at all. I asked her if some UA clothes were on sale and where the fitting rooms were. When I came back to pay, one of the shirts didn't have a tag on it, and she acted as if it was my fault. So I went and got another one with the tag on it and returned to the counter. After I noticed the items weren't on sale without a coupon, she did help me download one on my phone. However, she was hateful the whole time I interacted with her; it was like she did not want to be there. I understand that I was wrong about the sale items and the coupons, but there is no need to be hateful when a customer doesn't understand something. I can only take so much rudeness, so I left the clothes on the counter and walked out with my mother. I had left my phone on the counter, and the young lady was kind enough to bring it out to me in the parking lot, which I appreciate. I told her then that she didn't have to be so hateful. She handed me my phone, and we said our goodbyes. The initial mistake was mine—I didn't understand what was on sale and what wasn't. The reason I'm writing this review is because the employee was rude the entire time. I understand everybody has a bad day, but you shouldn't take it out on...
Read moreThis will not be a positive review. Yesterday, I took my handicapped 92 year- old mother-in-law shopping at our Athens Belk store. She specifically requested Belk. We found lovely items for grandchildren for Easter, but then she needed to do some personal shopping in ladies lingerie. She found the items she needed, but trying them on was necessary. The dressing area in lingerie was locked because " they were down a worker." (already bad management). We were sent to another dressing area where the stalls were so small no wheelchair could gain entry. I thought the ADA required stores to have handicapped dressing rooms. She ended up undressing (from the waist up) with her back away from any customers and me "guarding" her, in the tiny hallway access to the scrawny dressing rooms. I was mortified for her. Several very nice ladies (customers) mentioned they had no idea there weren't handicapped dressing rooms. Shame on you Belk. This lady has had an account with you all probably since the 1950's. She has dignity and pride. If you want all customers to have access, then it's up to you to get with the millennium and comply. I WIL NOT put her through...
Read moreMy first visit to a Belk Department Store EVER - while being a recent arrival in Tennessee - coincides with my greatest retail interaction, and it is all because of Julia. I walked in and noticed how deserted the Store appeared. I saw the men's clothing to my left, so I proceeded thusly. I found that several items I liked had a "60 % off with coupon," however that was available through your phone. I didn't have my phone. I looked for an employee, but found nobody. I walked towards Housewares, and there she was, my heroine...Julia. Julia helped with questions, product search, online assistance, and the aforementioned 60 % off savings. The best part is her convivial manner. I am grateful to Julia for making my initial experience at Belk...
