The Cathedral of St. Philip — Attraction in Atlanta

Beautiful building and all of the services are good. Especially glad for the outreach to the Latino community. The staff and the experienced priests are excellent--striking a good tone and balance in their sermons and teachings. The young woman canon named Lauren means well but could stand to be a bit less certain of her position as the authority on the Bible and its "correct" interpretation. Further, since parishioners have differing political views, her assertiveness on sociopolitical issues (no question about her political party) is off-putting and more appropriately needs to be part of a political rally, not an all-inclusive church community. Perhaps due to her youth and inexperience, more mentoring can help her grow in these areas. Most priests tread much more carefully and have more humility in fulfilling their leadership roles. I wish I could give negative stars.

I regret to share that our experience at this church school was deeply disheartening. We faced instances of bias, and my son was unfairly labeled as a "class clown" at just three years old. The complaints we received from the school about a toddler were disproportionate and, in our view, not in line with his behavior. What's more concerning is that not only some staff members but also certain parents contributed to this negative environment. My child is thriving in kindergarten now, with consistent positive feedback on his intelligence and behavior. It was shocking for us that this institution even suggested therapy for him at such a young age. Priest Cathy Zappa did not provide adequate pre-marital and financial counseling to my brother and his wife - my brother has basically had a nervous breakdown - lost 50-60 pounds, unable to eat, weak, now unable to work [he is about to get fired after 20 years because he can't concentrate; going on medical leave to hopefully avoid getting fired], deep in debt. I tried to warn her prior to the marriage - to no avail. She sided against me when I made complaint. I have reached out to her superiors - to no avail. I called the archdiocese - they did not want to address the issue of inadequate pre-marital counseling. Now I'm "crazy" for posting this review...
