Celebrating my 37th here. Indeed it’s extremely nice inside. It’s on the second floor, find the elevator-take the elevator up. Nice greeter and extremely nice server Shelby. She was perfect from start to finish.
One page food menu with small and Main plates there was over half of the small plates And most of all of the entrées that I wanted to try. Clean & Nice Restrooms.
-GA Local Lettuce- I never purchase the salad at restaurants because typically they are average. The lettuce quality was premium, dressing premium, olive purée premium, tomatoes premium, pickled onions premium. delicious. 10/10 -Mushrooms- it’s hard to get the mushroom taste out of mushrooms without soaking it in a sauce. They managed to get a grill taste on and the sauce is light. Could be cheaper but they taste perfect 10/10 -Flank Steak-perfectly cooked/seasoned and the veggies perfect. I can see someone ordering this small plate and salad and that’ll be their main meal. still equal $32 which is definitely main meal price. 10/10 -Chicken Balls-interesting, I’m glad my wife ordered these as I don’t eat chicken much. They truly transformed the chicken. The balls look perfect and I expected to bite into a chicken nugget ball, instead the meat was soft like salmon and I truly enjoyed the flavor and even the smell. 10/10 -Drinks-strong/Atlanta priced. The ginger kid & Rosemary night out was delicious and with fresh rosemary and blackberry. Every time I picked up the cup to drink, the fresh rosemary tickled my face lol. 10/10 -Grilled Lamb-Great portion/perfectly seasoned. I loved the vegetables and pearled couscous. At $45 it is fair as that lamb probably cost $30 raw by itself. 10/10 -Chocolate Cake- they let me try their chocolate torte and their sisters kitchen chocolate cake. They both were delicious. Their torte actually had more flavor, but because I had them side-by-side and was expecting cake, their sister kitchen cake tasted better to me even though it was plain with no icing, I like plain no icing lol and that it reads more like a cake. their tort has a brownie density, but taste soft-melting in your mouth like cheesecake or like chocolate. Their chocolate torte, I would have liked a cake breading underneath it to balance out the softness. their dessert menu was heavy dairy forward in which I didn’t want to order anything because of my lactose intolerance. Desserts typically have dairy so I’m not complaining 9/10
Live music on Sundays & Wednesdays. Brunch on weekends. Holiday specials. At these prices, I could see a person on a budget not coming near this area. Date or party vibes here. The small plates are definitely affordable, but you’d probably order two small plates, a drink with tax and tip will put you over $50 easily. Or with two small plates, you still will be in the mid 40s with tax and tip. Obviously the rent is high in Buckhead. Maybe a couple of the small dishes prices could be dropped down $2. I was full after eating two small plates and a main but I had no leftovers. Typically when I spend that much I have some leftovers but I was full. I think expensive when I think of Buckhead. The exotic cars outside really let you know what side of town you are on. Total opposite lifestyle in Jonesboro GA food desert & over policed & underserved. After driving 45 minutes back home late night, with the quality of food here and the variety this place is on the top of my favorites list. $10 street parking.
Chef Edgar and manager Khia came by our table. I was motivated because they both are young. I was so thoroughly impressed by their professionalism and personality, it felt like we knew them already. They took care of us like family. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend this restaurant. Everything was worth it.....
Read moreI had really high hopes for Gypsy Kitchen, but sadly those expectations were not met. My disappointment primarily lies in the reservation team and management rather than the food and drinks, which were only about average. I decided to make a reservation for myself and a few close friends for my birthday dinner. I made this res 3 weeks in advance to ensure GK could accommodate 7-8 people on the patio. I was advised that it would be no problem. About a week before the date of my dinner I called to confirm the party size would be 8 and reminded the hostess that I wanted patio seating. The restaurant contacted me about 3 hours before my res time to confirm my attendance and once again I was told I had patio seating. My entire party was present within 5 minutes of the reservation time. We were then taken to a table NOT on the patio. I advised the hostess that I specifically asked for patio seating during every single contact with the staff. They looked through their system and told me there would be a 2 hour limit to the patio. Ok fine. So as we were coming close to the two hour time limit, the server tells us they need the table, and not even a minute later a manager tells us again they need the table as we are being handed our tickets. However, I noticed that NONE of their other guests who were already dining before we were even seated are being rushed to leave, more specifically a large party of women who are seated at an identically sized table. When I point out this discrepancy to the manager, he responds that there is a time limit on our table because our party was 30 minutes late. He stated that we arrived at 6:45PM but my res was for 6:15PM. I IMMEDIATELY show him the text confirmations I have received over the past 3 weeks for 6:45PM. He offers me an apology along with a birthday shot and offered to take care of my meal during a future visit, but then makes sure to stress he needs the table. Again still never bothering to disrupt the other large party’s much longer dining experience with an enforced time limit now knowing that the hostess team made the error. This experience left me and my guests feeling dismissed and unwelcomed. With the endless restaurant options in Atlanta, it is very unlikely I will be patronizing...
Read moreTL;DR: If you are a visible minority or person of color, you'll probably have a negative experience from the hostess. Please book a reservation, and ensure you request your preferred seating on the reservation. The food was good, but forgettable, and the server was friendly and respectful. In my humble opinion, if you're going here, it's for the hype, but beware, the front of house does discriminate.
We attempted to walk in for lunch at 11:20 on Sunday, May 12, and were told that they did not accept walk-ins until 2 PM as they were fully booked, but we could sit on the exterior self-serve patio area. We found a spot, sat down, and while looking at the menu, noticed a link to OpenTable. When checking OpenTable, we saw a lot of spots available for 11:30 - 2:00 PM and booked an 11:30 reservation.
We returned to the front desk and informed the hostess we had a reservation. We approached the server with a polite demeanor and were not hostile toward her. The hostess looked visibly irritated that we were back eyes rolling and all . We were given relatively uncomfortable high chairs and sat without a word being said to us. We did not feel welcomed or comfortable, but we brushed it off. We dined for about an hour and a half and noticed a couple of things.
The entire restaurant was at a 30% capacity, max. A significant portion of the restaurant was still empty, so the initial refusal was a fabrication.
For the time we were there, we noticed another black couple complain about having a similar issue with the hostess to the manager. The couple had asked for patio seating and were not accommodated or treated with care. Following a conversation with a manager, they were moved.
We also had an Asian couple placed next to us on the high chairs, like us; they did not really want to sit on those chairs but took the seating regardless.
My conclusion is that there's a premium placed on patio seating, which is understandable. However, the servers are biased in their preferences and withhold those "preferred" seats from people of color. I don't think a service industry institution should force customers into a confrontational situation as well. Save yourself the discomfort and explore other dining...
