I have to add to my review, a year or two after the first one.
Mallory, the owner of Craft House, has created a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere where anyone and everyone can get exactly the cut, color or style they're dreaming of. Beyond that, she has put together a team of professionals who are all up to the minute in the latest cuts and styles. Finding a salon like this, as you probably already know, is more than you could hope for. BUT! The stylists, to a person, are all friendly, smiling, hospitable, and seem genuinely happy to be there. In my previous life (before I discovered Mallory fifteen years ago), I had been to certain "high end," or "hip" salons that may have given a decent haircut, but the stylists were unsmiling and moody, with the attitude that they were doing you a favor by cutting or coloring your hair. For these reasons, Craft House is in a category allllll its own.
Another wonderful thing: CH explains on its website that as a professional team, a client should understand that they don't have to feel obligated to stay with the same stylist. Perusing their website one day, I decided to make an appointment with Laura. Her bio and her interests in hair styling just vibed with my own.
Yesterday was my second haircut with Laura, and both times I left Craft House feeling fantastic, the way only a great new haircut can make you feel! Laura takes her time, listens to what the client wants and doesn't want; she is up-to-date with all of the latest cuts and styles, and has that artist's hand when it comes to cutting and styling hair (and my head was a mess-- both times!-- losing hair due to Covid, temporary dreadlocks, etc., etc.). I knew only one of Mallory's people could fix me, but even I didn't expect to walk out with my hair looking so amazing! Laura is a treasure not to be missed at Craft House; she is destined to become a star there, with the hands and mind of a true hair artist. Laura, thank you so, so much for my beautiful haircut yesterday...and as always, a huge thanks to Mallory for sharing her vision and creating a place like Craft House.
Mallory, the owner of Craft House, has been performing no less than great works of art on hair, since even before I found her in 2008! She is a genius when it comes to hair, finding a cut that is just right for YOU, based on your face shape, the texture and length of your hair, and the insightful questions she asks to learn what YOU want. So, the owner is wonderful and worth every penny of her price.
But there is more. Craft House is impeccably clean, beautifully decorated, and when you walk in, you feel immediately relaxed and taken care of. Yet though it looks, and actually IS a very high end salon (in the best possible sense) where many of us would feel intimidated, everyone I've encountered has been kind and welcoming. Everyone is always smiling and the vibe between stylists and everyone who works there feels extremely friendly and without tension. Craft House has really a positive salon atmosphere.
I don't know all of the stylists and hair color artists, but I know Mallory's high standards and would trust ANY ONE of them to cut and color my hair. When I'm in the salon I see what they're doing and the amazingly original cuts and color they create. That being said, my 73 year old mom goes to Mallory as well, and couldn't be happier since she started visiting Craft House! She is treated well by everyone and always returns home with a great haircut.

Read moreDearest gentle reader, I must confess, this review has been a long time in the making—one I’ve been meaning to write for quite some time now. As a loyal and thoroughly satisfied customer of Craft House for many years, it is only fitting that I finally sing its praises in print. Some establishments simply feel great from the moment you walk through the door, and Craft House is most certainly one of those. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff warm, and the moment you step inside, you are enveloped in a sense of comfort and care.
Allow me to start with the aesthetics—oh, the art! The ever-changing gallery of rotating works on the walls adds an air of sophistication and creativity that befits the talented artisans who work within these walls. I dare say, it's as if each visit is an opportunity to be surrounded not only by beauty but also by the brilliant minds that create it. And the cleanliness? Impeccable. Not once have I encountered a stray strand of hair out of place, which, considering the nature of the business, is nothing short of miraculous.
And let us not forget the delightful snacks, my darlings. A small touch, perhaps, but one that elevates the experience to something truly special. Trust me, these are no mere crackers and bland teas—these snacks are as thoughtfully curated as the services themselves.
Now, where shall I begin with the staff? Well, as I am often wont to do, I shall start with Mallory—my stylist for many years. Not only is she a true master of her craft, but it is clear that her passion runs deep. Her commitment to sustainable and ethical practices is not a mere afterthought; it is woven into the very fabric of her work. Her skills as a stylist are unparalleled, and yet it is her kindness and dedication to her clients that truly set her apart. I consider myself lucky to have her as my stylist, but even more fortunate to call her a friend.
And then there’s the incomparable Allie, whose work I have had the pleasure of experiencing on numerous occasions. Every time I sit in her chair, I am greeted not only by her expert touch but also her infectious energy and warmth.
Today, however, it was Sarah who had the distinct pleasure of tending to my tresses. Let me tell you, readers, she is as charming as she is talented. A true gem, Sarah combines professionalism with an innate sense of understanding, making every visit feel like a reunion with an old friend. I left feeling more radiant than when I entered, and isn't that the hallmark of a truly exceptional stylist?
For years now, I’ve recommended Craft House to friends, family, and anyone who will listen. And after every recommendation, I am met with glowing reviews in return—proof, if any were needed, that this salon is a true treasure. Craft House is not merely a place to have one’s hair styled; it is a sanctuary for the soul, a space where artistry meets genuine human connection. I cannot recommend it...
Read moreThis will be long but totally worth the read when looking for a salon
I have been searching and searching for a salon that is most importantly convenient for me because I work in manhattan so to be able to come home and go to a local salon was at the top of my list...well guys and gals, I FOUND IT!
I was recently at another salon about 35 minutes from my house that I did love but through shear coincidence I had also found Craft House. My now sister in law who got married this July had her bridesmaids get their hair and makeup done at the salon. So needless to say I had taken one or two trips to the salon before the big day!
At the time i had a colorist and was in desperate need of a cut...enter Liz. She is UNREAL, I was nervous about getting a chic short haircut (think Olivia Culpo) when Liz took over and put me at ease. She told me what length would work with my hair and what she thought I should do...I put total trust in her and came out with an unbelievable haircut that my sister in law went to her to get her haircut before her wedding.
After having an absolutely lovely time at the salon on my sister in law’s wedding day and the love we all felt from all the girls, I knew Craft House was for me, was my salon. I’ve always wanted to be a FULL blonde no darkness, just dark roots. At Craft House they have a something called a Platinum Blonde Card. Enter Liz again...as a colorist.
It was hard to leave my prior salon but out of curiosity and again convicence I decided to go all in with Liz. The week i went back in to get a trim, i asked her about the platinum card and she said we could totally do it.
To make an already long story short, she did the most incrediable job and I left as a blonde. 20 years of me wanting to be a total blonde bombshell, she did it in a couple of hours. Liz is so warm and attentive and funny and knows EXACTLY what she’s doing.
I would recommend Liz or any one of the women who works at Craft House for anyone to put their total and complete trust in them. I can’t say enough nice things about Mallory the owner, Liz and everyone single person who is there from stylists to colorist.
Choose and try Craft House for your next...
