Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook, Atlantic Highlands, N.J.
Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook in Atlantic Highlands is a small park with a 9/11 Memorial that tastefully honors the 147 Monmouth County residents who have fallen on that faithful day 9-11-2001. Personally, I love that you can sit and reflect, or it can be used as an awesome teaching moment for parents & teachers. You will be amazed by how well put together & how tastefully done this tribute is. There is even a piece of the World Trade Center attached to the Eagle's talons! The base of the monument list the towns of Monmouth County and the names of the fallen residents. There is a 9/11 Memorial Timeline representing the 3 hour time span of that tragic day, as well as many other amazing design elements.
This park is beautiful & a must see! During the warmer months, you can bring a lunch with you and enjoy the stunning views. At 266', itâs the highest natural point on the Atlantic Seaboard, from Maine to Mexico. The views of the Sandy Hook Bay & New York skyline are amazing. Some of the best views of the Atlantic Ocean! Check out some of the views from my pictures. Bring your own binoculars or for .25 cents use the built in binoculars for a closer view. If stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean werenât enough, there is a small playground, plenty of seating, and portable restrooms. There are also 3 informational boards telling you all about: the Raritan Bay & New York Harbor, the View from Mount Mitchill, and the Longshore Sediment Movement
Pros: Everything mentioned above +++ Excellent tribute to the fallen of 9/11. Cons: Small parking area that could fill up quickly on a beautiful day.
** Keep in mind I took my pictures in January 2021 & the views are still amazing. Now imagine them during the other months!

Read moreMount Mitchell is a hidden park at the top of the mountain with a great view of Sandy Hook, the fort, and on a clear day New York including Manhattan and Brooklyn. There is also a playground here for kids behind the parking lot, which is divided into a smaller tot-sized playground and older kids. If you have a camera with a telephoto lens I would recommend bringing it here on a clear day to take some great pictures. Currently they are adding names to the 911 memorial with the large eagle. The pathway up to the eagle from the parking lot has markers for each event of that day and the time it happened. This is our second visit to this park. Last time we visited, It was night time and quite dark at this park. I don't know if they upgraded the lights since then. However even during our visit on the dark day there were people here. There isn't a lot of parking here however it wasn't even close to filled on either visit.

Read moreGreat scenic place, great place to reflect on beauty, nature and the most powerful city on earth and how it all works together, the sad thing is that because of the views of southern Manhattan and the former World trade center, they turned into a 9/11 memorial to those from our county lost that day, and although i understand why, i am sadvthat a place where once was a place to reflect on the beauty of nature is now a place to remind you of the ugliness of politics, hate, greed, anger and religious intolerences( on both sides) and the loss of so many good people tbat were just going about their...
