Lamar Beach Metro Park along Lady Bird Lake is hands down one of the best spots in Austin, and I give it a full 5 out of 5 stars! This park truly has something for everyone, making it a fantastic destination whether you’re looking for a serene escape or a lively social environment.

As a volunteer at the animal shelter, I often bring shelter dogs here for walks along the trails, and it’s an absolute treat for them—and for me! The trails are well-maintained and dog-friendly, but it’s crucial to keep your pups on a tight leash since the area is bustling with joggers and walkers. It’s a great spot to help dogs socialize while taking in the gorgeous views of Lady Bird Lake.

For dog lovers, there’s an off-leash dog area nearby that’s perfect for letting your furry friends run free. The park is also dotted with shaded picnic tables, making it an ideal spot to relax after a walk or jog.

The facilities here are excellent. The bathrooms are clean and conveniently located, which is always a big plus. There’s also a fantastic playground for families with kids, making it a perfect destination for outings with your whole crew.

On a personal note, I love going shirtless during my visits, and Lamar Beach Metro Park is a great place to people-watch while soaking in the vibrant energy of Austin. The mix of joggers, dog walkers, and casual strollers creates a lively yet laid-back vibe that embodies the city’s charm.

In summary, this park is a gem for Austinites—whether you’re here for the trails, the dogs, the picnics, or just the atmosphere. Highly recommend spending time here and enjoying everything it...

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! Definitely one of the most iconic places to visit in Austin and you can really make a whole day if it here. It's a great spot to take family or friends from out of town too. There are a lot of different spots to walk around and sightsee, and it's especially pretty at night when the skyline is all lit up. There's also a bunch of other stuff you can do since Ladybird Lake is right there too. Parking can be a pain since it's so popular, but if you're patient or lucky enough, or into alternative transportation (bus, bike, etc), you'll find a spot. It's always worth the potential...

I am not a real dog lover honestly, and do not have any pets at home. However, a couple of my friends are dog lovers and always describe to me the places they go to walk their dogs or train them etc. This has got to be the number one spot where most of them recommended that I take my dog (if I ever got one).

From my experience here: It is a nice and easy trail where you enjoy one of those beautiful spring/fall Austin days. I would sometimes grab my bike and try to make a few rounds, but it was often crowded on those beautiful days (the real downside IMO).

Bottom Line: Best for going on a nice...

Beautiful place to kayak or walk the trials. A lot of wildlife. I saw big birds idk what they were turtles that weren't snapping turtles. There's a part where water comes on from a natural spring down on of the channels so that water was very clear the river water seemed pretty clean as well. A few bridges you can jump off depending on water level some may not be wise

This place is amazing. Being in contact with Mother Nature and all of its wonderful creatures such as bats, turtles, swans, ducks, snakes, birds and having lots of fun in the river with paddle boards, kayaks, etc., where you can spend a wonderful time just chilling with friends or making new ones it's a terrific experience.

I love this place, but while my photo has Gus, our sweet boy, in the water, you should definitely keep yours OUT. There are still algae issues being worked through, and it's not worth risking it with your pup. Gus is fine, but we know a couple dog owners who have faced big vet bills because of the algae.
