Mañana – Downtown Location is another outpost of the popular Austin café, this time situated in the heart of downtown. This location is clearly designed with a different clientele in mind-primarily office workers and professionals dropping in for a quick caffeine boost during the week. The indoor space is minimal and functional, not particularly cozy or atmospheric, but practical for its purpose. What it lacks in interior charm, it partially makes up for with its large outdoor seating area, which is spacious and well laid out for those who want to sit and enjoy their drinks. The coffee here is good. We ordered a flat white and an iced matcha. The matcha was smooth and unsweetened-exactly as requested, which is a detail we always appreciate. Service was quick, and drinks were prepared with care. However, one thing worth noting is the attitude of the staff toward children. While our visit was brief and casual, we got the distinct impression that kids were not exactly welcome. Our children were simply being curious-touching the merchandise, playing with crayons and while nothing was damaged or out of control, the staff seemed visibly irritated by their presence. The vibe was a bit tense, as if families with kids were seen as an inconvenience. Overall, this Mañana is a good stop for grabbing coffee downtown, especially if you’re alone or with other adults. But if you’re with kids, you may want to consider other locations that are more welcoming and relaxed.

Wish I could give this 0 stars. Went here yesterday excited to try the Manchild Matcha. I get there, place my order and the barista preparing the drinks immediately goes, “ugh another Manchild Matcha” rather loudly. I pay no mind to it, surely he has prepared many of them this past weekend and 2 ladies ahead of me had just ordered them. While my drink is being prepped, I ask what the code to the restroom was to this same barista. At first I thought he didn’t hear me as he didn’t even look in my direction or acknowledge the question. He quietly groans out the code to the bathroom (1003, in case someone wants to save themselves from this delight) - ok, cool. I was clearly the bane of this man’s existence today. I get my matcha, and there’s no strawberry jam at the bottom. I give it a good mix but there’s none. The 2 ladies before me had beautiful Manchild Matchas exactly how Mañana had advertised, with jam at the bottom. I kindly let him know there’s no jam at the bottom and he squirted a bit at the top. Silly me, thinking he’d realized that he forgot a step (happens to all of us, unless you’re him of course) but he just squirts some at the top. The matcha was terrible though so I threw it out. Not only did I feel unwelcome, but I wasted around $9.50.

I recently visited Manana Coffee in Austin and was blown away by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The coffee was top-notch, but what really made my experience stand out was the exceptional service from the tall, blonde-haired barista. Her beauty wasn't just skin-deep - her kindness and attention to detail made my morning coffee feel like a luxury. She took the time to learn my name and made sure my drink was crafted to perfection. The whole cafe exuded a sense of community and comfort, and I can't wait to come back and experience it again. 10/10 would recommend!

A lot of you yuppies who go here won’t even notice, but they charge an “employee support fund” surcharge to every order. I ordered a cup of drip coffee for $3.50 and they tacked this charge on ($0.25) and then ALSO asked for a tip. Businesses should be transparent with people about pricing up front. They should also just actually pay their workers instead of asking the customer to pay added fees and tips. We all know where all these little added fees in restaurants and coffee shops are actually going. I won’t be coming back, and I hope you, who are reading this review, stops to consider the scam that these kinds of businesses are running and reconsider your choices.

Edit:

Thanks for responding below. The claim that 100% goes to your employees might be true, but it ultimately means that you’re able to maintain higher profit margins and offload the expense of these benefits to your patrons. May I ask why you don’t just provide these benefits to your employees without expecting the customer to foot a separate fee for it? As is, it’s a form of corporate welfare.

What is the hourly wage range for your workers? 3 weeks PTO certainly sounds nice, but if you’re making $8-10 an hour without tips (the other form of corporate welfare you rely on to cushion your profit margins) then that amounts to paltry $300-400 a week PTO, hardly anything remotely close to a living, let alone reasonable, wage. The legitimacy of the benefits aside, the problem here is that you’re expecting the customer to subsidize it in a fee that you’ve separated from your product, which insulates your profit margins and, consequently, upper...
