California Welcome Center — Attraction in Barstow

Friendly staff and lots of CA maps but I’ve never heard of a “welcome center” with no restrooms!! That’s insane. Continued below …

There are restrooms at the nearby mall but still, it’s a hike in the sun from the welcome center and there are no urinals, just a line of mall shoppers all waiting to use three gender neutral stall bathrooms. Horrible set up.

As this is the first CA Welcome center coming from Nevada, it should be much bigger and have much better facilities (covered parking in the scorching desert, drinking fountains, and large restrooms and a place to eat or drink picnic style). That’s what I think of when I think of a welcome.

Can’t fault the staff though, friendly, proactive...

NO, not the old Santa Fe Trail, but it’s much much longer ~ ROUTE 66‼️ As you drive along Interstate 15, and approach BARSTOW, you’ll c👀 BASTOW PREMIUM OUTLETS. The CALIFORNIA WELCOME CENTER is located conveniently near the OUTLETS entrance as you drive over the small bridge built over the wash. Don't expect much, as far as merchandise is concerned. It has been years since I've walked into one of these and I actually learned a lot. They had great info on Barstow and parts of the state I wanted more info on. Plus they had coupons! (When I was a kid Disneyland used to have coupons in the phamplets, we grabbed a stack and used them for years.) Stop by if you got the time, they likely have something of interest to...
