This is such a weird, iconic ride. It's not my most favorite Disney coaster (that would be Expedition Everest), but it has to get top marks just for the presentation, which is not quite like anything else (even Disney's other Space Mountains are all a bit different from one another--this one was actually the first Space Mountain, opening a couple of years before Disneyland's version, with some mechanical inspiration from Disneyland's Matterhorn Bobsleds).
Fundamentally, this is a small Wild Mouse-like roller coaster in the dark, characterized by sudden turns and little drops that you can't see coming because you can't see anything. There are some projections of stars and galaxies and such on the ceiling above you, though these are mostly noticeable during the parts of the ride where you're not deep within the invisible support structure. There's music during the ride, but since (unlike the Disneyland version) it's not coming from onboard speakers on the trains, it can be a little faint. Strategically placed fans and the darkness make it seem like you're traveling much faster than you really are. It is a little jerky, though I didn't find it terribly uncomfortable. It's fun!
What makes it special is all the stuff surrounding it. The queue is an otherworldly progression of visuals and music loops that present the impression of a science-fictional spaceport. The first thing you ride through is a strange "energizing tunnel" with nifty moving lights and pulsing sound effects. The lift hill is a passage through a huge, murky diorama, containing a giant spaceship complete with glowing engines and spacewalking astronauts (not sure it's safe for them to be out there with those rockets going!)
And even after you get off the ride, the passage back to Tomorrowland is on a moving walkway with more futuristic dioramas to see and personalized video displays (though, last I heard, that was temporarily shut down for remodeling).
Update: Apparently the moving walkway is no more and the personalized green screens are gone. The dioramas...
Read moreSpace Mountain at Walt Disney World is an absolute thrill-seeker's paradise! This iconic roller coaster took my breath away from start to finish. The exhilarating journey through the darkness of outer space left me in awe. The twists, turns, and drops were perfectly timed to create a heart-pounding experience that had me on the edge of my seat.
The attention to detail in the ride's theming is exceptional. From the moment I stepped into the space station queue, I felt like an astronaut preparing for an intergalactic adventure. The futuristic soundtrack and mesmerizing light effects added to the immersive atmosphere, heightening the anticipation for the ride ahead.
The coaster itself was an adrenaline rush like no other. The sensation of soaring through the stars at high speeds was truly unforgettable. The unexpected surprises and sudden drops kept me guessing and left me screaming with joy. The smoothness of the ride and the well-designed restraints provided a comfortable and secure experience.
The cast members operating Space Mountain were friendly and efficient, ensuring a smooth boarding process and maintaining the highest safety standards. The wait times were well-managed, and the overall ride experience was worth every minute spent in line.
Space Mountain is a must-visit attraction for any Disney World enthusiast. It combines the perfect blend of thrills, theming, and pure excitement. Whether you're a fan of roller coasters or just seeking an out-of-this-world adventure, this iconic attraction will leave you with unforgettable memories. Read moreOK so the ride actually last I bet 2 to 3 mine it's very high speed with tight turns with lights and it's fun while it lasts but that's it I don't want to say it isn't worth it because in order to say you been to disney it's one of the rides you need to do but with that said disney with all the different passes has tried to make it better but it isn't even the lighting line took almost a hour so if you are going to go to disney but the passes you can get there early and really plan it out otherwise you might get on 3 maybe 4 rides a day the rest of the time is walking to the rides and standing in long long very long rides and hudge crowds and the really bad thing is you have payed hundreds just to torment yourself lol but you got to go to disney. I know it sounds like I have a bad attitude against disney but I really don't when I wasn't in lines and when I wasn't taking out a second mortgage to pay for a trip to disney it really was fun. In the end you really need to save money alot of money for hotel food and all the passes then after that plan everyday down to the second and that isn't a over reaction it will alow you to have more fun with less stress. Then when u enter the park you can start your day of right. With all this said everyone should visit it really does give you a special feeling you won't get anywhere else but just pay attention to what I have told...
