There are many Astro Orbiter facts available online. What is left out is that the capacity should be: only one normal-sized human adult per rocket.
Allow me to explain: A ride operator asked the two of us if we'd like one rocket or two. Wanting to be considerate park guests by not taking up two ride vehicles, we looked at each other and said "one".
BIG mistake.
Looking back on the situation, the ride op should have politely said, "I think you'll be more comfortable in separate ride vehicles." It was a comedy for us to get into the ride, as you have to step DOWN into the compartment, and sit with both of your legs out in front of you. If there are two riders, the rider in back has to make room between their legs for the other rider. This pushes the knees of the rider in back against the sides of the ride. (This will be a key detail later) The seatbelt situation was also an issue, as the belt was clearly not meant to go all the way around two adults, and we had plenty of trouble securing it to the satisfaction of the ride-checker. So, we were already laughing at our ridiculous position as the ride began, as it was clear this ride was going to be slightly uncomfortable and certainly a near-impossibility to exit when it was over. Our anticipation of soaring over Tomorrowland quickly faded as we realized our compartment was overloaded to the point we were unable to use the lever to raise and lower our vehicle as everyone else was doing.
This made us laugh pretty hard - but as the ride's speed increased, the aforementioned knee positioning became a problem as my outer knee was being mashed into the metal side by the forces of rotation and weight of the rider wedged in front of me, between my outstretched legs. All she remembers is hearing "my KNEE! my KNEEEEEE!" the entire ride.
When the ride mercifully came to a stop, we nearly (and maybe did) pee ourselves trying to get out. We were laughing so hard and helplessly that it was hard to muster the strength to leverage ourselves up and out over the edge, and of course my knee was no longer working properly. I'm sure the ride ops and waiting passengers thought we had lost our minds. We'll ride again on our next visit, but in separate...
Read moreHow did I forget about this ride? In fact, I hardly remembering riding it as a kid. My little one pointed up in the air and said, "Daddy what is that ride?" I looked up and said, "Wow I have no idea and we went up to check it out!"
As I was spinning in the spaceship, it all came back to me...I did fly on this ride, when I was a little kid. It was a fun experience for me to have with my little one. It is moments like this where two generations can enjoy the same ride and maybe one day we will be here with my little ones little ones and we will get three generations on here all at once. Probably the closest thing we will get to someone in our family being an astronaut.
The ride goes in a circle just like Dumbo or the Alladin magic carpet rides. The difference with this ride is the height. Yes you are high in the air as you spin and you can see everything from up here...so enjoy the views of the park.
I can understand how I have missed this ride for all of these years, even to the point that I forget it even existed. There is so much to take in at Disney and sometimes it takes a child eyes to see the things you are missing. I am so lucky that I had a pair of young eyes with me or else we would have missed this moment. This ride is located near Buzz Lightyears Space Rangers ride. Just look up and you will see the rocket ships going in a circle. Okay stop looking up and get in line for launch! Have a safe fun flight and be...

When the ride is open, I anxiously wait inline even slightly due to the staff sharing concern with me. Once and when on top, I feel rushed to make my way to select. I am excited but then become scared in the high orbit due to the over tilt.
The hydraulics badly creak. The ride slightly jolts while it should be smoothly going up and down. Thankfully, I can feel like I am slightly holding on tight due to the provided handle while also tucking my feet together and keeping them deep in the ship. I slightly choose to slightly comfortably duck. Later, I get scared looking forward and unfortunately down that I need to choose to glance over to see the park. I wish a little boy would choose to resituate the space ships and smooth the...
