Open - NOT!
We got there early this past week {June 2017} and found that the Gift shop is open, but the Museum was not, and in fact it is closed due to being moved to another building that per the person running the gift shop will not be for a year or more.
You can though go out back and see dozens of mining machines that were used in the area during the Borax and Gold rush era.

There's a printout next to the back door of the museum gift shop that has little explanations for each of the artifacts. But the numbers on some of the artifacts are missing and some items are clearly mislabeled. When we visited there was a guy demonstrating flint knapping. Chatting with him was the best part of the visit. He had a good collection of flint and obsidian arrowheads...

It's not a large museum, but it's a nice break when you are ready for lunch or just need a moment to relax. It's also free which is great, and the kids will like the big machinery. I didn't get to go inside as it has weird hours, but walking around the yard...
