Let me preface this by saying, I feel really bad giving one star reviews for anything because I know the staff all work hard to make sure everything runs smoothly and it is not their fault if things are mismanaged, which is why I gave this two stars. The autumn, leaf peeping train ride was very disappointing. I purchased tickets a few weeks in advance, as there was only one day scheduled for the autumn train ride. The leaves were green. The train ride was supposed to be 1.5 hours, it was a little less than hour. Nothing really nice to look at while on the ride, you pass some abandoned cars in people's front yards, a fish factory farm, and general debris. The train wasn't really clean, the seats were sticky and had visible dirt marks all over them. (Yes I understand that this is run by a non profit and the reason that there is only one day of the year that this ride is offered is because of limited resources, but you can't afford some Clorox and paper towels? Recruit volunteers with the soul purpose of making sure the train is clean prior to departure. Work with the local high school, national honor society recipients are always looking for extra volunteer work) The one part of the train that appeared to be clean (and heated) was off limits.... I think it would be smart of the historical society to offer tickets to the dinning car at a higher price, for people that might want a nicer experience. ** Or don't have the door open to that car, so that people walk back there only to be told that the...
Read moreThank you all for making the return journey of Bellefonte 9167 such a fun experience. Every staff member was friendly and helpful -- and passionate about the train. Events -- from promotion to the final "all aboard" -- was well communicated. I even purchased a hat for my friend who came aboard with me with his wife. I strongly encourage you to sell hats and merchandise (like snacks as a fundraiser). I also wish there was someone narrating the journey talking about the train, how folks traveled via train as well as the sights outside the window -- making it a great educational tour. Luckily for me Jim Baldwin and his wife Nancy were born and raised here and were excellent tour guides. I also think folks would pay good money to have a "dinner ride" with chamber music or a champagne brunch ride for New Years as fundraisers. As a PR professor at Penn State, I give you an "A-" for creating a well organized experience and coordinating with the rail system to use the tracks. I think people aren't aware how much goes into planning this excursion. Bravo to all. I can't wait until I can take the train all the way to Curtin Village or even Tyrone! I would love...
Read moreWhat a beautiful discovery in Bellefonte! This charming historical railroad park is a hidden gem. The vintage trains, the peaceful walking paths, and the iconic bridge over the water make this place feel like a movie set.
There’s a great playground for kids to enjoy, and the restrooms were super clean — which always makes the visit even better! We also loved the peaceful picnic area and how welcoming the whole space felt. There’s even a cozy coffee shop just around the corner.
I also really appreciated how accessible and inclusive the area is — perfect for families, solo travelers, and people with disabilities.
Definitely a place worth stopping by for a relaxing stroll, great photos, and a little bit of Bellefonte...
