Big River Scoop Ice Cream — Restaurant in Bemidji

Always love coming here for a treat. The staff is friendly, there is a ton of choices, and it's one of the few places in town that truly has something for everyone. I love coming here with my brother who is Dairy free, and they always have at least three choices. The other big thing I love about this places is the staff. My brother is autistic, and shy around new people because of his speech impediment, but Big River staff never skips a beat when helping him out. They always let him have a taste, and don't hesitate to let him decide what he wants. Patience and as friendly as can be. There are to many places who just treat him like a kid, or like something is wrong with him, but not here. It was just the other day the gal who was helping us noticed he was undecided about how much he wanted, and literally told him "Let me know when you want me to stop. We enjoyed an evening snack here. Cookies with our choice of ice cream between them. I had 2 sugar cookies dipped in white chocolate with Lemon poppy seed ice cream in between them. Yum! This quaint little place is right across the street from the statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox. There was a table outside when we ate. Tables out there were not clean but since we were just eating handheld ice cream items it didn't matter. There is a nice paved walking trail in the park with the statues and the trail goes right along the river and over the bridge. Beautiful park with nice children's play area. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. We stopped into Big River Spoon 20 minutes prior to CLOSING. My husband order a shake. The employee said she couldn't make a shake because the close in 20 minutes. She also said they wouldn't do mini donuts due to closing in 20 minutes. If you are open until 9 it is your job as a business to service the customer until closing time and not pick and choose what a customer can and cannot order. Unfortunately, I had already order my ice cream when we found this out, otherwise, we would have left and not ordered anything.
