I don't usually feel the need to write a negative review, even if I've have a bad experience at an establishment.. but because I miss the old Paul Bunyan Sub Shop that I grew up with, and loved their subs SO much, for so many years, I feel compelled to write this review. (In hopes that someone - the owner or manager or someone in charge will see this and maybe things will change or go back to the Paul Bunyan Sub Shop that I, and so many people in Bemidji loved and miss). Of course when I heard they had reopened the Sub Shop after it had closed, I was elated!! But then, I heard so many negative things - mainly that the subs just weren't the same, and no one I talked to said they would go back. THEN, I heard that you could request the subs to be made 'old way' so I thought I would go in and give them a try... I mentioned to the gal behind the counter that I wanted to order them the 'old way,' and BOY, did she set me strait! You could tell it was a very sensitive subject around there. She informed me that the subs WERE the old recipe, except they improved them. "Better bread, better meats, better cheese, etc.." Well, I ordered the club sub, and it wasn't anything like the club sub I remember.. The new bread is SO THICK in proportion to the meat, and it was Dry besides! They put 2 thin pieces of meat on the sub, that were nothing special as far as deli turkey goes. But because the bread was so overwhelming, the tiny amount of turkey didn't make sense on that sub. The cheese they used was NOT the white American they used to use, but a very 'off-putting' Swiss cheese. The salad dressing was different, and the Italian dressing was not the same. The sauces were always their signature flavors, and what set them apart from other subs. They have changed EVERYTHING about their subs, and I don't know why they even call it Paul Bunyan Sub Shop - the changes they have made, have ruined it. I hope someday they will realize they had a very good thing going, and go back to the...

When it used to be open in the small corner building attached to Ace Hardware I would get so excited to have my mom bring us out to eat there.
Now I wouldn’t choose to eat here any day of the week.
Not only is the building extremely awkward and cramped, it’s just not as good of food as it used to be. I got the philly cheese steak sandwich with cheese whiz. I have never. In my entire life, had such a dry, bland, flavorless sandwich. Ever. My girlfriend got the meatball sandwich and it was the exact same story, no flavor, and dry as hell.
Not only that but the staff when we went were having an argument right out in front of the customers. With no regard to who heard.
It’s a shame that this place isn’t what it used to be. The only reason I’m even giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the old store deserves so much more...
Read moreI was not impressed what so ever. There was 3 employees working. We were the second costumer of the day and they were literally a mess. They got two out of the three subs wrong in front of us. They Forgot my boyfriends in the toaster. I had my sub for a sold 10 minutes before we said something. By that time it was burnt and they had to remake his. I got the pulled pork and there was barely any meat and the bread was soggy from how much cosla was on it. Might have been a good sandwich but they ruined by loading it up with the wrong ingredients. I don't come up this way very often so I'm not sure I'll...
