Read moreSather Tower—Berkeley’s Campanile—is more than a landmark; it is a sonic and architectural anchor for the city and campus. Rising 307 feet in pale California granite, it is visible from Marin, the East Bay hills, and across the Bay. Its presence is steady, but its voice—the 61-bell carillon—is dynamic. The carillon began in 1917 with 12 bells and expanded over decades to its current range, thanks to gifts from alumni and benefactors. Today, it is one of the largest in the United States, with bells ranging from small trebles to the 5.25-ton Great Bear Bell. The instrument is played by hand and foot from a wooden clavier, allowing for expressive performances. The daily recitals—at 7:50 a.m., noon, and 6:00 p.m. on weekdays; 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays; and a 45-minute concert at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays—offer a repertoire that ranges from classical to contemporary. The music is always different, adding immeasurable charm to the campus...
Read more🥰I loved visiting the Campanile! 🥰
Whether you are a student, family member, friend, or visitor you are guaranteed an amazing experience in the Campanile. The fee to get in the elevator which takes you all the way up is only $5 for adults and $4 for children and seniors making it an affordable activity that is sure to wow your entire family. The views from above are astonishing and I recommend everyone who visits goes directly here. The times were kind of confusing because they close at 1:15 for the ringing of the bells and then open again. So, make sure to the most up to date information on their website before visiting. Also, before you enter the campanile make sure to do some research on it as it has a very interesting history and some fun facts. There are a few dozen steps that you have to climb after taking the evevator, but they are well worth it at the end. Have fun and take lots...
