What a fascinating life of the famed adventurer, hunter, trapper, Chief of Scouts, Luther ‘Yellowstone’ Kelly lived. A guide during the Indian Wars of the West in 1870 & 80’s. He had his right pinky finger shot off in a skirmish with Sioux Indians in the Ft Buford area. The Sioux by that time were the big bully invaders of Assiniboine country from the Minnesota uprising. Assiniboine & many other plains tribes were practically wiped off the map because of small pox, over 90% of their people perished. Prior to that, Assiniboines were some of the most ferocious warriors in battle of The Missouri & Yellowstone river bottoms due to their bravery & mass numbers. “Keep not standing fixed and rooted. Briskly venture, briskly roam.” was one of Yellowstone Kelly’s quotes of his travels in Indian country but all over the West. He def lived up to it! Nice to see an interpretive site that honor’s the legendary man of the West himself,...
