This place is great for all ages. There are nice bathrooms with a changing table, a roller rink for skates, benches, paved walkways, a hill covered with artificial grass...oh...and a skate park :) The skate park is open weekdays at Noon, and 9am on the weekends. It stays open late too--10pm maybe? It is under the interstate and has lights, so a little rain isn't a problem. There is always a person working there in a little building at the gate. The first time you go, you will fill out a waiver (adults have to do this for their children as your drivers license number and signature are required). On future visits, you only have to give your phone number to get a wristband. They also have a limited selection of drinks for sale. The skate park is well done. The vibe is welcoming and exciting. The "pros" using the park are kind to the beginners, and seem patient and willing to help them improve. There are people of ALL ages in the park. Not allowed: foldable scooters, plastic scooters, mountain bikes. Parties and large gatherings are not permitted unless previously authorized. Alcohol, smoking, profanity, weapons, etc are not allowed. I highly recommend a daytime visit to...
Read moreThis park would be noteworthy for it's size, variety or quality alone. Killing it on all three pretty much makes it a "six" in my opinion.
It is literally right under I-20. So, it's an easy stop for anyone passing through. The bathrooms are nice. It's clean. It's well-lit. Most features are in the shade and out of the rain. There are so many ledges, that even the ledges have ledges. When I saw it on YouTube, I half thought it must be computer-generated. Nope. It's all there and really is that nice.
I would consider this a destination park, with only a minor caveat. The main bowls are big. You need some serious speed to work them. The big bowls are also subject to rain. This is not a complaint--just a consideration if you mostly skate bowls and have a long drive.
There are some plaza-style features with banks and quarters that fill in for intermediate bowls. There's also something like a 3-footer that's fairly small. This is a welcome feature that's missing from so many parks.
I really loved the pump track. It's crazy...
Read moreThe skate park is amazing! I know it says 5th largest in the US but it doesnt quite feel that way in pictures. Once in person you really can soak it all in.
Theres something for everyone, pump track for the kids, amazing street section, for park skaters, as well as street skaters that want something less parky.
3 bowls/pools total, one small thats perfect to learn on, basically a mini ramp. A solid classic carving pool, and a large pool with island thats appropriate for BMX.
My ONLY gripe are the hours.. its an outdoor, always lit skatepark. I understand the need for waivers and such, but why not implement an after hours on your own rule?
Its not really the night time that gets me though. Week days you only open at 12??? Any other day of the week and im done skating by then. It is open at 9 on weekends but even that isnt early enough IMO. 7-8am opening Sunday through Sunday is perfect. I mean you can access the rest of City Walk anytime so why not...
