So... I paid to do labor AND got treated like a criminal at 2nd Ave today š. I left my purse in my workbag on accident and ran to grab it from the car before I jumped in line. I gave a heads up to the jewelry lady before I left to see if they could keep an eye on my cart. When I finished ringing myself up, the jewelry lady (low ponytail, possibly middle eastern) came over and stood DIRECTLY in front of me with a straight face/arms crossed as if she was trying to catch me stealing (...at a thrift store lol). I showed her my receipt and she checked every line with her finger and even checked the lining INSIDE of my shoes and gloves. She smiled and turned on her "customer service" once everything on my receipt made sense, but I felt violated: 1: They didn't check anyone else's receipt except mine. She was behind the glass until I was in line to make matters feel worse.
#2 Earlier, another clerk made me help her move a box from the shelf. She was nice, but I am not an employee nor was I paid. The other women just had spacial awareness issues and kept telling people to move. It was really uncomfortable but I did get a laugh from that with another shopper.
If you're so worried about people stealing, put people on the floor to actually ring things up and monitor us vs flirting with the dreadhead man, laughing and waving that pink phone around š. The panhandlers outside were more friendly and social than the team that was there...

No one greeted me or asked me if I needed help but every time I turn around someone is just watching me. Hereās a tip; if youāre going to follow people around the store be helpful. I didnāt even realize there were two empty open self check out registers because 3 employees were standing around as I waited in line to pay for my items. If youāre going to watch me the least you couldāve done was direct me to the available self check outs. As Iām folding and bagging my items the employees are literally just standing over me not saying anything. Itās weird because Iām already at the check out, you already followed me throughout the entire store make it make sense. As a person who has worked in retail for several years please learn to engage with customers and not assume someone is going to steal just because they are black! Itās not that hard. I...
