Love the park but they have an old man screaming at people kicking them out before the park is supposed to close wich is at 8 pm. i had the nastiest expirience today what happened is just not acceptable i don even know how to feel this is america its not supposed to be like that it was 7:35 pm and im parked my cars both of my dogs were really happy because i was going to walk them. when i saw the sign outside that the park closes at 8 i said alright i still have around 25 min to walk my dogs since i live in upper marboro which is around 45 min from the park. but as soon as i get off the car i see this man inront of my car screaming im ready to close the gate so im like what ? and he said IM GETTIN READY TO CLOSE THE DOOR so im like excuse me do u work here ? because he didnt i troduce himself and the guy was very aggressive with his tone and body language so i told the guy excuseme sir why you screamig at me i don know if work here or not but i do know that youre not supposed to be screaming at people then he kept screaming so i told him please dont get any closer to me stay were you are because i did got kinda scared and then he said he was gettin ready to close the gate and that he was gonna leave me there inside the park and i looked around there were like 10 cars next to me and people walking, riding bikes, kids playing in the playground i mean it wasnt time to close yet man and after that the guy left and came ten minutes after screaming from far away HEY at me so he was still screaming so i ignore him because he was talking to other people that was black and since he was black they were getting along so good and since i was spanish he was screaming at me like crazy for no reason whatsoever... im not racist period i have a lot of black friends that i call brothers but i think that man was racist so its not acceptable. I think that before he aproach someone he has to at least introduce him self and say that he works there. like i said im very disapointed im never going to go to this park again but if i do and that guy screams at me agai im calling the cops right away. Think twice before u come to this place specially if you are spanish since that guy will most likely scream at you and tell you to get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEdit: I originally posted this review to the wrong place! I've had no issues with Adkins Arboretum, as I hadn't been there, and got the location mixed up with this area! My bad! Now, it's been fixed!
Getting here from the bus, on the opposite side of the place, was a pain and a half! There are roads there that arenāt meant to actually be crossed by people!!!! So much traffic bustled through as if they were on a highway!!! I never would have gotten across had a kind lady not stopped specifically so I could dash across the streets!!!š«š« It felt like nearly 15 minutes had passed from me trying to cross four lanes before she came along!!
Once I finally got to the proper side of the street, getting there, the area seemed rather smallish. Then again, I didnāt go very far, as my main goal was to gain a gander at the water.
And that made it all worthwhile, for me.
There were more cars than people, but thereāoddly?āwas a guy speaking/vocalizing all by himself in some roofed area as if in front of an invisible crowd. Iād believe it if he were an animatronic, but I donāt think he was.š¤£
On my way back to the bus stop on the same side of the road as the park, I came across a whole dead fish just chillinā in the grass.šš¤Ø Near the stop, there was an abandoned bag in the distance, and the bus I got onāI believeāwas a T3, which wasnāt listed on the bus stop sign. I could be wrong on the exact labeling, but there was a 3 involved in it somewhere!š¤£
If I can remember which bus that actually was(an 18 or T18), Iād take it from the station it leaves from thatās shares the same side of the street as the park. Cuz while the atmosphere from the water was nice and relaxing for me, there aināt no way Iām eager going back the exact way I did the first time on the wrong end of the street!š¤£š¤£š¤£ The bus I took to get there was from the Addison Road station. No idea which one it is for the other side. But, perhaps I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell-maintained park but is a bit on the small side. There are however plenty of things to do like hiking, biking, paddling. The best part is that it's only 3 miles from my work in College Park. The bike trails are paved and well-maintained. It traverses the length of the Anacostia River all the way to DC. There are spots along the way where you can sit down and take a break. The river provides more paddling than I can handle and there are areas where trash collects on the side. I saw turtles, herons along the way. This is my new fave park due to its proximity to work.
There is a rowing school in one end of the park so you will have to compete with rowers for space in the launch area if you come around 4 pm. There is a dedicated kayak launch, though. If you wait a bit until the rowboats have launched, you can launch a kayak without bumping into any of the rowers. It is best to kayak downstream toward DC. The one time that I tried paddling upstream, my kayak bottomed out as the water was a bit shallow.
There has usually been available parking when I've come on...
