The food is delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine. The following reasons why I'm not giving it 5 starts is because, 1-they dont turn on their AC in the summer! I've been here many times and I came last week when the weather outside was over 90F and I walked in and it was so hot!!! I asked the server if she can please do something about it and she just looked at me and smile. She did nothing about it. My partner decided we stayed since we were starving and we just wanted to eat. 2. We order a lot of food for two and we asked the server to please make sure we get some dishes first and then the large ones after, that way nothing gets cold, she brought ALL the food at once. 3. We ordered 2 juices and when they arrived, I asked her to please bring us water ( something I shouldn't have to asked given the weather and inside heat!), she came back with ONE GLASS OF WATER. When I asked her to bring a second one, she came back with the other glass of water almost 15mins later. By that time, we were already almost done with all our food. In all, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A PRIORITY IN THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY AND THESE SERVERS SHOULD CARE AT LEAST...

Transplants to the DC area are familiar with the struggle to find real Mexican food. Not Salvadorean, not Peruvian, not Honduran, but Mexican! It's like people around here have no idea what continent it's on.

I cannot tell you how relieved I was to try La Chocita. It was one of the best meals I've had in months, like coming home. Additionally, they have a decent selection of vegetarian items, and our meal was relatively light, instead of greasy.

We especially loved the way their flor de calabaza quesadilla is as much vegetable as cheese. Their huevos a la Mexicana were a bit mild, but so satisfying. They also serve each meal with an excellent salsa tray.

Their aguas frescas are very good, and we loved the guanabana (soursop) flavor. Unfortunately, they do not make a flor de jamaica flavor.

They're also missing a few staples from my childhood, like agua de jamaica, and cumin-loaded frijoles refritos. Still, I'm excited that a Mexican restaurant exists in the DMV, and we will...

Solid tacos but not the best. Some items in the menu are better than others, I'd say the Quesadillas are really good. This seems to be a hit or miss when it comes to the flavor of things. Sometimes the food is prepared much better than some other times. I would recommend ordering by phone and picking up your food for take out rather than eating at the restaurant itself - service can be very slow and underwhelming, not to mention the staff could be more proactive when it comes to cleaning the tables and chairs. Just like the food sometimes service can be very fast and really good but it's inconsistent. The chairs and tables look cute and give it an "authentic" atmosphere and rustic mexican/tex-mex vibe but while they look nice they're actually very uncomfortable. Your mileage may vary of course. Overall when it comes to Mexican restaurants in the area It's not the best but...

I had read very mixed reviews of this restaurant but wanted to try it for myself. Very glad that I did, and am updating some info that was mentioned in past reviews. The dinner started out with chips and salsa and regular water, free of charge. We got large beers that were great value for the price. We had the mixed fajitas and a rabbit dish in green sauce (can’t remember the name of that). They were a bit in the high end of price but both were very authentic and delicious, piping hot. Our server was very attentive. She spoke very little English which gave me a nice opportunity to practice my Spanish. The area we ate in was very casual but there was a large section that might be open in the warmer weather. All in all the experience was great and I look forward to eating there again!

A very festive Mexican spot. Looks small from the outside, large (and colorful) on the inside. Interesting wooden statues and other peculiar decorations. Can't fault the food; it was delicious. The fried fish (Mojarra Frita) didn't disappoint. Excellent side of guacamole. The large size drinks are HUGE, but kinda pricey ($10). Service was competent and friendly, but a bit inattentive when it came to paying the bill. This is my only minor complaint: they automatically included a 10% tip on the bill, but didn't tell us when it came time to tip, so I added the normal 20% on top of that. So look carefully at your bill. But other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, and I plan on being a return customer.

From the looks outside the restaurant, this looks like the place to go. Upon entering, we quickly noticed NO A/C in the restaurant, purposely. No air vents anywhere. You've been warned. Chips and dips, didn't do it for me. I had the fatita mixta with chicken and a very small plate of rice and pinto beans. Disappointing and lacked flavor. I'll admit, once inside, this place is huge and the decor screams Mexican pride. Maybe they had an off night, and with family members from Texas who experienced plenty of tex-mex and authentic Mexican food. This doesn't compete. I won't be returning. I won't recommend trying this restaurant.
