The food is delicious and authentic Mexican cuisine. The following reasons why I'm not giving it 5 starts is because, 1-they dont turn on their AC in the summer! I've been here many times and I came last week when the weather outside was over 90F and I walked in and it was so hot!!! I asked the server if she can please do something about it and she just looked at me and smile. She did nothing about it. My partner decided we stayed since we were starving and we just wanted to eat. 2. We order a lot of food for two and we asked the server to please make sure we get some dishes first and then the large ones after, that way nothing gets cold, she brought ALL the food at once. 3. We ordered 2 juices and when they arrived, I asked her to please bring us water ( something I shouldn't have to asked given the weather and inside heat!), she came back with ONE GLASS OF WATER. When I asked her to bring a second one, she came back with the other glass of water almost 15mins later. By that time, we were already almost done with all our food. In all, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A PRIORITY IN THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY AND THESE SERVERS SHOULD CARE AT LEAST...
Read moreTransplants to the DC area are familiar with the struggle to find real Mexican food. Not Salvadorean, not Peruvian, not Honduran, but Mexican! It's like people around here have no idea what continent it's on.
I cannot tell you how relieved I was to try La Chocita. It was one of the best meals I've had in months, like coming home. Additionally, they have a decent selection of vegetarian items, and our meal was relatively light, instead of greasy.
We especially loved the way their flor de calabaza quesadilla is as much vegetable as cheese. Their huevos a la Mexicana were a bit mild, but so satisfying. They also serve each meal with an excellent salsa tray.
Their aguas frescas are very good, and we loved the guanabana (soursop) flavor. Unfortunately, they do not make a flor de jamaica flavor.
They're also missing a few staples from my childhood, like agua de jamaica, and cumin-loaded frijoles refritos. Still, I'm excited that a Mexican restaurant exists in the DMV, and we will...
Read moreSolid tacos but not the best. Some items in the menu are better than others, I'd say the Quesadillas are really good. This seems to be a hit or miss when it comes to the flavor of things. Sometimes the food is prepared much better than some other times. I would recommend ordering by phone and picking up your food for take out rather than eating at the restaurant itself - service can be very slow and underwhelming, not to mention the staff could be more proactive when it comes to cleaning the tables and chairs. Just like the food sometimes service can be very fast and really good but it's inconsistent. The chairs and tables look cute and give it an "authentic" atmosphere and rustic mexican/tex-mex vibe but while they look nice they're actually very uncomfortable. Your mileage may vary of course. Overall when it comes to Mexican restaurants in the area It's not the best but...
