If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Let me explain. We booked our 3 night stay with this hotel thinking it’s a nice 4 star hotel. Based on my previous stay in 2019 and reviews online, I believed it was going to be wonderful.
Parking: We got to the hotel and first of all, parking is outrageous. The hotel has a parkade attached to the side (which you also have to pay for as it’s not included in the stay), but half of the parkade is for apartments! I don’t know when they changed half of the hotel into apartments but my guess is that’s when it went downhill. So basically you can only park in selected stalls that aren’t for tenants. Then from there you have to walk up the stairs to the second level of the parkade to enter the hotel. Which doesn’t even take you to the lobby, instead it takes you to the pool! For what?! I have no idea. The stairwell in the parkade was absolutely disgusting. It had stuff like dirt and grime but was red like blood smeared all over and it stunk so bad like something was rotting in there.
Reception: we finally find our way to the lobby after a very confusing walk around. There was only 1 person working the front desk so there was a very long wait. We get up there and the guy could barely speak any English which was very frustrating when trying to ask any questions. There were also other things we had to pay for at check in but like I said we couldn’t understand him whatsoever so unsure of what we paid for besides parking, but it was an additional $170.
Room: we checked in and went up to our room just to find a disgusting mess. The room was spacious but maintenance and basic cleanliness have not be kept up whatsoever. To start, there was mold all over the outside of the shower and the whole suite felt very moist. The vent in the bathroom was completely plugged with dirt and grime. The bedsheets were half off the bed. There were stains all over the couch. The windows were half foggy due to moisture and the cherry on top being the black mold in the air conditioner/heater.
We took our stuff back down to the lobby to inform them of these things. Had to wait in line for another 15 minutes due to only one person working. This is when the guy became very rude. We explained that we paid for a clean and tidy room and this was certainly anything but that. We explained the room was moldy and he agreed as he knew the unit had mold. He told us that he couldn’t refund us and they were fully booked so they couldn’t change us suites . But funny thing is we could pay an extra $250 if we wanted to upgrade to a better suite. 🙄 we said screw it and left. Thankfully we booked through AMA Travel and even tho we booked a “non-refundable “ room, we explained our situation and they had no problem dealing with the hotel. Luckily enough they made the hotel fully refund us the entire amount.
This is the only Crowne plaza hotel I’ve experienced so I can’t speak for the others but wow was I ever disappointed. We highly DO NOT recommend staying here! You’ll be wasting your...
Read moreSpent 4 nights here in the past month or so, 2 of them aligned with a wedding reception across the parking lot a couple weeks ago. Right on the light rail line one stop from terminal 2 at MSP airport and a couple stops from the Mall of America in the other direction, a great location in the middle of the Twin Cities, west side of St. Paul just a short drive away. Last Friday stayed and took the light rail to a Timberwolves game in downtown Minneapolis. Prior to this month, Crowne Plaza Aire has probably been the single most frequented hotel for myself and my family due to its convenient location for our stays in the Twin Cities. We enjoy the air transportation theming found throughout the hotel and if you have time the Northwest Airlines Museum within the hotel is well worth a visit.
In general this hotel has everything you would expect in a Crowne Plaza, which might also be my favorite brand within the IHG portfolio, pretty nice pool area at this one too. As a Spire IHG rewards member, I've stayed at a lot of IHG Hotels. My one complaint about this last visit isn't about the room or the hotel, but I was a little disappointed in the attention to detail of the staff with my reservation. I know that on a points stay an upgraded room isn't always going to be available... but with the frequency of points sales from IHG they clearly expect us to pay with the points we've paid money for at times, which doesn't seem all that different than paying with money. So the room was the basic one we'd reserved which was fine if a tiny bit disappointing (the last two stays the rooms were great, by the way), but the other thing that was disappointing was with my room preferences - high floor and away from the elevator. We were placed in a basic room on the 5th floor of a 13 floor building right on top of the elevators. We weren't going to spend a lot of time there so not a huge deal, and it was pretty quiet at the hotel. Which kind if itself made me wonder why there wasn't an upgrade or an attempt to match preferences.
Also, they really need to expand the bar/restaurant hours, 9 PM is incredibly early on Fridays and Saturdays, when we stayed a couple weeks ago for two nights there certainly seemed to be a decent crowd at the bar at 9, perhaps we are getting to a point where somewhere between 10 and midnight should be doable, at least a couple nights a week. I'll probably want to keep coming here for many reasons, but will shift elsewhere if the bar stays closed and the preferences and status are missed in the future on...
Read moreMy husband and I recently stayed with the Crowne Plaza Aire in July and EVERYTHING was exemplary (no joke). The staff, the service, and the atmosphere,...everything. Barely a month later my family and I were back to enjoy another weekend in Bloomington to watch a game, shop and just relax as a family. However, this time around it was like we were staying at an entirely different hotel all together but same building. On top of this, the issues stretched beyond our room as well.
We needed additional pillows, towels, and some bedding, as this time around both of our kids were with us...this took at least three calls and it was pushing 10 pm when housekeeping finally showed up. The frame that our bed was on looked like it was going to give-way and the mattress was going to fall through. On Saturday we went swimming, there were no towels in the pool area which isn't out of the ordinary but when there's two good size towels racks and both are empty...then that is a problem. The pool area bathrooms were filthy, there was urine all over the toilets and the floor, toilet paper stuck to seats...just gross.
There were also two elevators that went down, keep in mind this is a very busy hotel there are FIVE elevators and taking out one is bad but two is NUTS. But when they are in service, be prepared to wait for about 10 minutes for it to finally show up. My family and I left for relatively early in the day, we came back long enough to drop off some things and head to the metro to go to Target field, we didn't get back until nearly midnight and our room, along with the bathroom had NEVER been cleaned. So we had no towels, beds were never changed, and to top it off we had to call the front desk yet again and when we did finally speak to someone they wanted to send someone to clean it at nearly midnight, which we declined because our boys were tired but we did ask that more towels sent up.
When a person showed up, he was very nice he took the used towels from the bathroom but my husband had to empty the garbage's. So, needless to say the stay this time around was less than satisfactory which was really disappointing because every other time is been great. But what bothered us even more so was the fact that we paid through the nose for two bad nights, not even worth it. I would have rather paid a bit more at any of the other hotels and had my money...
