Backstory Coffee Roasters - Bloomington Central Station — Restaurant in Bloomington

Firstly, I LOVE backstory coffee. Up until now, I’ve never had a bad experience any any of their cafes. Their drinks are phenomenal and their baristas are SO friendly. My experience at their Bloomington location, however was not great. They still had amazing drinks and the baristas were great…but their cafe is FREEZING. I’ve been here 3 other times to try and sit and work but I end up leaving because of how cold their cafe is. Even the barista’s complain about how cold it gets. Customers literally have to wear coats if they plan on sitting more than a few minutes. For reference I’ve sat in various areas of the cafe to see if there is any difference middle of the cafe vs by a window. This location is the closest to me and I’d love to be able to sit and work regularly…but until they can figure out how to keep the place warm I’m afraid I...

We visited around 1:00PM on a Thursday afternoon, when it wasn’t busy, yet still waited nearly 10 minutes in line before any staff acknowledged us. The line behind us started getting restless—some people even mentioned needing to get back to meetings. The area behind the bar was messy and disorganized.

We ordered two iced lattes and two cranberry turkey wraps to go. The lattes were decent, but the wraps were a major disappointment—especially at $11.50 each. They were basically plain tortillas loaded with cream cheese, a handful of dried cranberries, a few slices of deli meat, and some crispy fried onions. I couldn’t even finish mine.

Obsessed with coffee shops is an understatement for me so of course I was so excited to try a few things at Backstory! I started with a hot maple & caramel latte, I asked the barista what the sprinkles were for behind the bar and she was nice enough to sprinkle a little on my drink 😍 I also chowed down a butter croissant so fast my camera didn’t have time to think! Next I got an iced chai with vanilla & an iced matcha to go and I was so happy sipping my drinks. It was stunning inside the restaurant however we took our goodies outside and enjoyed all the places to sit and take in the beauty day we had.
