Terribly managed park.
As a member of the East Boston community I want to feel good about Piers Park. Unfortunately I can't.
Park staff are constantly driving around the park in motorized vehicles, everything from golf carts to large trucks… driving at unsafe speeds, around people walking and kids playing, blocking the walkways, idling, and generally making for an unpleasant environment. Why are behaviors unacceptable for city streets tolerated in a city park?
And the worst of it is the way staff treat waterfowl. This morning while I was sitting in the park, I observed staff riding a golf cart across the grass, obnoxiously honking the horn to scare the geese away. This went on for a very long time. These are shorebirds. If you don't want to have geese, then don't put a glorified lawn next to the harbor. These birds have been here for centuries. They have every right to exist. They are doing absolutely nothing wrong. The same can't be said about the people representing this park. Parks can be, and better parks are, designed to respect wildlife, not to attract them so they can be antagonized and terrified.
The community should demand better...
Read morepiers park is one of the few parks i’ve been to in east boston that has a decent amount of greenery and nature. they do a good job keeping it pretty clean. there’s geese poop but that’s inevitable. folks clean up after their dogs. which is amazing and you would think it should be common sense but it’s not so common these days. there’s so much space for a picnic or even outside gatherings with friends. we’ve seen photoshoots here and i can only imagine how the pictures turn out. i appreciate the two different sides of the playground. there’s a tall side and mini side for the babies that older kids could still play in. which is cool. my seven year old bounces back and fourth. in the warmer weather there a splash pad and picnic tables in the playground with a bathroom right behind it which is so convenient. the scenery is also gorgeous. it’s worth the trip. you’ll spend at least a few hours there so pack a lunch and...
Read moreLocated in East Boston water front, impressive design with mix of tons of sunny areas and shaded ones. The shaded areas also are mix of natural shades of lots of wonderful trees and man made shaded areas. I enjoyed walking through clean well paved walkways. The whole neighborhood together with the park area are flat and even with minimal elevations which is more appropriate for older people to walk or run comfortably. Two parking lots are added advantage to this wonderful facility. Even more, admission is free of charge. One more important advantage is no dogs allowed that helps younger babies and kids play freely in the fields and help better maintain clean both the walkways...
