The Tall Ship was one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had. Please bear with me and this ridiculous story, which occurred the day of the Boston Celtics 18th Championship Parade.
What started as a nice place to drink a few (questionably overpriced but thats alright) beers with friends, turned into a terrible situation. Halfway through my visit there, it started to pour rain and thunderstorm, so everyone had to go under the tent that is in the rear of the venue. Vibes were okay, except now everyone was jammed into a much much smaller standing room only area. Half of the tent-covered area had available picnic tables, except the bouncers gatekept (seemingly without reason) who could go sit in there. So hundreds of people were given half the available standing room space, without any chairs and maybe one table.
This was far from a perfect situation, yet it was bearable with the inclement weather. After all, it was no one's fault that it had been pouring for an hour. There were a few vendors available to buy drinks from under the tent, though the gap between the tent roof and the vendor stalls allowed you to get soaked within seconds of waiting.
All was fine, though admittedly I was getting restless standing still there with the large crowd in such a confined space. I worked my way to the edge of the tent and asked a friend for a hit of his vape and took ONE single puff. I do not live in Boston and am not familiar with its policies, thinking that if I am outdoors it would be okay as long as I did not do it near anyone, considering the weather. It was not my intention to cause a ruckus or disturb any one.
However, this ONE puff resulted in three different security agents circling me as if they were the Secret Service. I immediately apologized saying that I was not aware there was a rule, said I would put it away and that I would not do that again and that they had my word. Again, I was there to have fun and chill out with friends on a celebratory day for the city. I do not live in Boston and have not frequented the bar scene there very often, but I know any sane establishment, considering the weather and my first time offense, would give me a warning and perhaps keep an eye on me to make sure I was not causing any more trouble.
However, instead of giving me any leeway at all, these three security guards acted with such power-hungry malice that they immediately kicked me out of the tent, out of the venue and into the torrential downpour outside. I am no rebel so I did not fight after my initial apology, though friends who remained under the tent tried reasoning on my behalf, but to no avail. Remind you, this is the day of the parade and absolutely no one is prepared for rain so before even exiting the venue I am absolutely soaked. I ever-so-briefly attempted to stand outside the venue under the security tent to call a car to avoid being caught in the rain any more, but one of the three security guards followed us all the way out and upon us asking if we could stand there for a second to call a car to avoid getting more wet, he started flexing his "powerful" position on us saying "I make $30 an hour, I love this job!" which was a weird flex but okay guy, go off.
Anyhow, I spent the rest of my evening at other bars in the city soaked to the bone and shivering. It quite literally ruined what should have been a very joyful, memorable day.
If Michelle Wu and her appointed "fun czar" want to learn how to make the city's nightlife more fun and a lot less lame, looking at at this place would probably be a...
Read moreI’ve never been more offended by the staff and security team as I was visiting Tall Ship. Attached is the photo of the Manager in the grey polo. The Head Security guard is wearing blue. Alondra V. was our cocktail waitress. We reserved the place from 2-6pm and were kicked out at 5pm. We were told we only had the reservation from 1-5. We showed them email proof and then we were told that we were being hostile when we showed email proof. Tall Ship had the wrong email attached to our reservation. This was their mistake and ultimately double booked our lounge that overlapped.
The main security guard, was the one that let us in at 1:55, and said “Surfside is over there.” At that time, there were very few people in the establishment. We were having a great time, ordering bottles, taking photos, until our waitress tried to say it was last call at 4:20. At this time, we said we had a reservation from 2-6. She said it was up to her manager because the reservation was 1-5. We showed our receipt to both the waiter, and manager. We only called them out on their error asking for the email they sent it to (wrong email and name for our reservation table). It was their error. The manager, David, came over and gave us a shot because they knew they were wrong. Three tequila shots, one for each person birthday person we were celebrating and one for himself. They let us stay after we ordered another round but then they closed us out AND then they kicked us out after not receiving our last round.
Alondra’s manager was apologetic…while Alondra was still being combative, saying that we made the error…after showing the receipts and the fact that her manger just gave us a drink because they were wrong. At that point, I asked her what her name was while she was clearing another table. She waited for the 20% inclusive tip and additional 3% we did on top of that because we knew it wasn’t her fault even though she was defending the error they made. She immediately went to her management to remove us for a “hostile environment”. Not a single person was loud or rude or hostile except everyone that works there.
After this exchange and the shots that was given to us, the security staff walked by our group at 4:40, three of them. At this point, we knew something was up. We were still waiting on our last round of drinks that were ordered. The security was circling the whole time afterwards and said we were getting kicked out because we made the server cry. They told us all we had to leave for no reason other than being “hostile”. Multiple security officers threatening to bring in State Troopers and that we were now trespassing on private property. This was all from the head security guard with the bad teeth. Multiple times “the head security guard” threatened to put hands on us, a group of gay men enjoying two birthday parties.
An entirely gay group was kicked out because they messed up on their end. Based off of multiple other reviews, there seems to be a huge prejudice here towards minorities. In our case, it was homophobia. I’m appalled and disgusted this place operates in Boston. DO...
Read moreIt pains me to even be doing this right now. I have been to the tall ship a handful of times. I’ve always had a good experience up until yesterday. This is the first time I had got to experience their reserved section. My boyfriend proposed to me yesterday (fiancé now) he planned the most beautiful day for us including celebrating at the tall ship w/ friends and family afterwards. He reserved 3 sections from 12-3pm. We saw our servers a total of twice before 1 hour went by without any service. We had to actually go up to management and ask for them to find our servers bc 30+ people were without any service for over an hour. Once they were found they would check in every so often and continuously tell us we haven’t reached the minimum. Lol…. Obviously we haven’t because you guys have been MIA for god knows how long. Anyways, that’s not the bad part. Besides the sub par service… that’s not even the reason for this 1 star review. Upon leaving is when things took a turn for the worst. Our group had exited pretty sporadically. It was when my fiancé and I had left with about 4 other people and walked to our cars. Everyone was cheering for us because it was an exciting day and we were dancing to the music. That’s when a staff member had walked over to us and demanded we leave immediately. As he was saying this to us valet was grabbing my friends car and backed it into a cone…. That’s when my fiance spoke up and said to the employee “your valet just hit a cone in her car, & he was unable to park my car because it is a manual… you should be less worried about us leaving and celebrating & more worried about training your valet on how to do their job”. Not sure why he took so much offense to him just stating a fact because he decided to then make fun of my fiancé without hesitation in front of our friends and family. Verbatim this employee, supervisor, security whatever he was said “ you should be embarrassed valeting your 3 series BMW, oh look you have your instagram on the side of your car? You shouldn’t be reserving tables wearing fake jewelry.” I was in the passenger seat in absolute shock at what I just heard. He was acting like a high school bully… as the owner/management of The Tall Ship you should be extremely disappointed in your staff. We had then swallowed the ounce of respect we still had for that place and left. Like I said, pains me to even be writing this review but after that interaction I think this is unfortunately...
