I've done two rooms at this location. The sets are very cool and the puzzle designs aren't impossible to figure out. However, both times I went we encountered puzzles that weren't exactly functioning correctly. This meant that even though we had solved a puzzle, we couldn't progress through the room without intervention either due to a mechanical failure or because some aspect of the puzzle was calibrated incorrectly.
The first time we went, we asked for more time in our room to make up for the loss of time from the malfunctioning puzzle and were only given 2 extra minutes when the failure caused us to lose at least 10 minutes. This was a puzzle that opened a table containing an essential element to progress the room. We were still able to finish the room, but with barely any time left, and we found the experience a bit frustrating.
The second time we went with a bigger group and did the laboratory room. We were told that most people who don't beat the room don't even get out of the first room and we quickly figured out why-- the puzzle required to get out of the first room is extremely prone to being misread/failing because it uses an actual antique scale. This, in addition to the lock box that's used in conjunction with that puzzle being set to lock people out for SEVERAL minutes after failed attempts, led to us only having 15 minutes left in the second room even though we had technically solved the first room within 20 minutes. We were all fairly disappointed by this. I would highly recommend they rethink this puzzle, or at least switch to a lock box that doesn't carve out chunks of time when most of the difficult puzzles are in the second room. Especially because no one wants to spend $30 per person to feel so annoyed by losing because of technical issues. Losing because puzzles are hard is reasonable-- losing because the room is broken feels bad.
The staff has been pleasant each time we went and we didn't really encounter anyone rude. The two rooms we've done are pretty cool, but after experiencing issues in both of them, I don't think we'll be returning here in the future. For people who have groups of 5 or more people to go with, I think this is probably a pretty good choice, but I don't think these rooms are generally meant for smaller groups. Don't do the laboratory room without a huge group, as there are...
Read moreThere is a semi spoiler for the laboratory room here (item 2 below)....I tried to keep it as general as possible, but that's difficult when trying to give a clear picture of the experience. We were a group of 3 and did the laboratory room (the site says 2-10 participants. The other rooms are 2-7 and 2-8, so the numbers seemed a little arbitrary, aside from capacity, when we booked). Some parts were fun and clever, others were very frustrating (frustration coming from things being broken or opposing what we had been told in the lobby...see below) Some of the props/puzzle elements were broken, so distinguishing if you were on the right track or not was difficult in those cases. You watch a whole video about not breaking things or moving furniture, etc before entering the room. Once in the room, one of the clues requires you to pull a piece of the wall off :l We didn't finish within the time limit because there were So. Many. Puzzles. This would have been great with more people, but with 3 it was overwhelming. They walked us through what was left in the end and said that they generally recommend groups of 10-13 take on that room....so, a clearer recommendation on group size or, more so, difficulty level on the website would have been nice.
We basically spent our time in the room feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of puzzles in the room. You definitely want a bigger group for this one. *I originally marked this as a 3 star experience because there we had some fun, but there were some frustrating elements. The response from the owner however was pretty poor (accusatory, defensive, etc), so I adjusted my rating to include the...
Read moreUpdate** we just returned with a group of 4 adults and 4 kids to escape the laboratory and it was such a fun challenge! It was very thought provoking and required everyone to continuously work through all the puzzles (there were A LOT!). Our game master, Maxime, was so awesome! She gave us the perfect amount of help when we needed it and even gave us a few extra minutes to escape! We love this location and we will definitely continue to return!
We escaped the jade skull room with three adults and two kids ages 7 and 10 with 4 minutes to spare. It was fun, challenging, and we all kept busy solving puzzles, which were the perfect level of difficulty for the range of ages we had. The staff member who helped us was friendly and upbeat. We all had a great time and we will...
