If you're industrious enough to hike or bike the entire Delaware Canal State Park, it's a good idea to look into where it starts in Bristol. The confusion stems from the town gradually filling in the end of the canal after it closed in 1931. To help out, I've posted several pictures. First is a picture of where the canal originally split off from Otter Creek. It goes a short distance and then is filled in. If you want to start from this point, you'll start at the circle pattern in the Bristol Lions Park. As you go, this trail will also be called the Bristol-Spurline. Be careful, though. To stay on the canal trail, you have jog west at some point. This can get confusing if you look on Google Maps, as Google shows water down to Beaver St. Actually, the water doesn't start again until Washington St., but the trail by itself picks up at Beaver St. If you started from Lions Park, you must go west one and a half blocks to stay on the Delaware Canal Trail which splits from the Spurline. However, parking is slim here, so most people go to the parking lot off Jefferson Ave. From that point, the trail becomes much more obvious. Starting from this location, you'll see the gazabo and water feature in the Delaware Lagoon Park. The canal trail is approximately 60 miles from Bristol to Easton. If biking, it's easier to go from Easton south as it's slightly downhill in that direction. Many people combine a trip on the trail with a visit to New Hope. For events at this park visit: events dcnr pa For more information: pa parks and forests. (diamond)

Lovely little park with water feature and fountain. Pretty folly with fine examples if Moravian tile inlays. Nearby is wonderful community garden. Tennis courts are also here. Signs are around that describe canal history. A very nice place to stop by, especially if you have just got hold of a yummy take out meal and would like someplace nice to eat it. (Please dispose of trash properly, and wear mask if passing near others. Thank you)

This park is really a mixed bag, totally dependant on what sector you are in. Not all of the townships that host this park hold the bar as high as others. You will find transient camps in the Bristol sections, but the townships further north keep their sections beautiful. My suggestion is start at Washington Crossing & go north. You could start at Morrisville, but the parking isn't as good. Anything south of that...
