We stopped here on vacation so my daughters could earn their junior ranger badge from here and I'm so glad we stopped when we did! We got there right before 4 and the last tour of the day. Prior to going, we had no idea who Frederick Law Olmsted was but are so glad we now know who he was because he was such an interesting person! We were the only ones there for a tour so we got a "private" tour by the ranger there. Her name was Katie and she was amazing!!!!!! She was SO informative about the site and shared really interesting facts about Olmsted and the firm. She was interactive and funny with our kids, which they absolutely loved. It was one of the best historical tours we've had! We left knowing so much more history and having had such a...

Wonderful way to spend a few hours, even though the building was closed to visitors. Beautiful and fascinating setting, and rangers were pleasant and more than helpful. Interesting for gardeners as well as people interested in landscape architecture and history. I think kids would like it, too.

Rangers from nearby JFK Birthplace were there while their property is being renovated. They told a really interesting story and clearly were proud of their regular assignment. I was glad they were there; I probably would not have made a separate visit but pleased we learned more about JFK (even though we are all old enough...

A wonderful National Historic Site! We learned so much about the man and the ways his firm has shaped American outdoor spaces. The tour of the workshop was amazing for the details of technology at the time. You'll learn how blueprints are made, and get a sense of what document storage was like before computers. Outside, is the "shortest hike in the National Parks," a walk through the restored landscaping. The rangers were friendly and knowledgeable, led great tours and we thoroughly enjoyed it. You also can't beat free admission. We spent about...

Many people have jogged through the Emerald Necklace or Central Park (just to name a couple of the hundreds of projects) designed by F. L. Olmstead; fewer might know that Boston is where his latest dwelling is. The house has become a museum and can be visited; a wonderful guided tour will show you all the nooks and crannies of this marvelous home. I suggest asking about the "hidden" trail in the garden. Enjoy!!
